Going out of my mind.

I am not sure if I am the only one that feels like I can not make a decision. My fiance and I have looked at about 12 different places and none of them have blown me away. I am not sure if what I was expecting while I was looking. Everytime I like a place i seem to find or hear things that are wrong with it so it turns me off. I am leaning towards the Hamlet Windwatch in Hauppauge and Denise who has been working with me is amazing. I do not know why at this point I am so indecisive. How did anyone else make that final decision?

Re: Going out of my mind.

I had a horrible time decided. We narrowed it down to 2 places that were completely different. I must have seen 20 places (i'm the first one getting married and I've never attended a wedding on Long Island)

What are you looking for in a place? (beach, golf course, Suffolk, Nassau, doen't matter, etc.)

What price range? Also time of year and day of the week?

How many people?

Re: Going out of my mind.

The places that you like so far, you should go back when they are set up for a wedding to get a better feel of the place.

Re: Going out of my mind.

We are pretty open with where the hall should be. We have about 150-180 people attending. we are looking to keep the price under 90. Which I have been finding prices below that which we are happy about because we are getting married in December. I like the Hamlet it is just hard to make that final decision.

I think keep looking until you find 'the place'. If you run out of options, re-think your priorities as far as the flaws you are finding.

Re: Going out of my mind.

We chose the Sheraton because we knew we wanted a hotel and I have to say when I walked into our reception room I saw my wedding. I'm not sure if everyone feels like that but I envisioned DH there and my family. It also helped that the church and that room were available on the same day.

Re: Going out of my mind.

I went looking and of course, the whole aspect of the place, how it looked and the food was important. You are going to hear raves and some bad but you can't please EVERYONE! Its your day and what makes you happy you go with it!

Honestly, the BM and the price is what made our decision. When someone goes out of their way and is very helpful, very detailed and works with you...we knew our day would be great with a BM like that. The price then helped even more!
I know it may not be the best of the best but we are going to do what we can to make it the best and have an amazing day!

Good luck!

Re: Going out of my mind.

Girl, I was in same situation as you. I looked into about 25 different places, and I never got that WOW feeling. So this is what I did. I made a list of priorities which were important to the both of us. The prioties were
One wedding at a time
Windows (I hate feeling closed in)
A view
Waterfront
Budget.
4 out of 5 aint bad, and that's how we decided on our catering hall. Now if its between 2 halls that you cant decide on, then make a pro and con list to help you. Or if you have specific problems, mention them to the banquet manager so they can clear any questions for you. Good luck in whatever decision you make!!!

Re: Going out of my mind.

I see that you are getting married at the Hamlet in October. What did you think of the dance floor? Did you think that it was to small. How many guests are you inviting. Also how do you feel about the retractable wall? Are you planning to opne that room up or leave it closed for the whole night? I really think that is the only thing that is bothering me. Otherwise I really like the place.

Re: Going out of my mind.

forget about all the places/the menus/the prices for one minute....sit down by yourself, with a blank piece of paper and a pencil. Close your eyes and envision your wedding. Open your eyes and write down what words come into your mind (ex: classy, elegant, big open space, windows, fireplaces, etc). do this for a good 5 mintues...which is a long time when you think about it. Then walk away from it for the rest of the day.....look at your list the next day and figure out which locations had those qualities....narrow down from there:) sounds totally cheesy, but it worked for FH and I......

Re: Going out of my mind.

i had no idea.. and i generally have no patience to just keep looking. but i knew i wanted to be married somewhere outdoors. we're having about 160-170 people so we also needed something very affordable.

we had set up a bunch of appointments but only gone to one other place when we went to majestic gardens. when we pulled up to it, i was iffy. but then once we took a tour and started talking to the owner i liked it more and more. that and he gave us an awesome price so we simply couldn't say no and ended up booking it the next night before we even looked anywhere else.

Im sorry to laugh, but can I tell you I had THE SAME ISSUES!!!!! I am inviting between 125-140 people. The dance floor I think was actually big compared to other dance floors I've seen, so no I didnt think twice about that. I was planning to keep the wall closed, but after speaking with past hamlet brides and a few guests (most recently diamondgrlie ) they all have reassured me that its better with the wall open. Diamondgrlie said it the best by saying she heard a lot of ooohs and aaahs when the wall retracted after the cocktail hour. I also was skeptical about the adjoining room, but again speaking with past brides I know I made the right decision by renting it out. God forbid it rains, the cocktail hour room is too small to accomodate all the guests. So at least I have the peace of mind of knowing everyone will be comfortably seated. Plus I just love the idea that the whole place will be just mine. Again, this is not to sway you because I know you are undecided, and this is a big choice you must make on your own. But definitely make a pro con list and see what the outcome is. If there are ANY questions you may have, feel free to fm me!!

Re: Going out of my mind.

I am completely in the same boat. I think my big mistake was looking at the Riviera first because I feel in love with it but it turned out to be too costly (considering all the opposition I've had with ILs and the like). Then I went to the Irish Coffee Pub which mom fell in love with and that I hated. Wound up a Brentwood Country Club which is attractive for the price but the room is kinda dingy. Then went to Windows last night and loved it and was misled to think that it had an all inclusive package deal like Brentwood....which it does not!!!!! I'm so confused and pulling my hair out. I actually stayed home today to try to sit down and figure out what I'm going to do.

Re: Going out of my mind.

I probably should have stayed home today as well. i am at work and as you can see I am not getting much done.

Diva that you so much for your advice on the Hamlet. I am really leaning towards having my wedding there. I have an appointment booked for saturday to put down the deposit. It is just really hard to decide on all these places.

Re: Going out of my mind.

I hve the opposite problem. We loved the first palce we looked and we only looked at one other place. i know it's supposed to be fun to look at all of these other palces, but I don't think I'll find a place I like more...i SHOULD look though b/c our first choice i a little too expensive

I too had the same issues. I did end up getting the extra room. I like the idea that everyone can sit during the cocktail hour. BTW, we're expecting to have approx. 150 guests. I am still a little bit unsure about the size of the dance floor, but I think it will be fine. If you get the extra room for the cocktail hour that wall will be open. That's what Denise told me. they put those half wall things (with the planters in them) in between. I would rather have the wall, but Denise said they would need the space where the wall would be for tables in the ballroom. If you will have the wall I would definitely open it later. It gives so much more space. Good luck in making your decision. I've heard so many great things about the Hamlet Wind Watch. I am so happy with my decision (so far.)
