Going Solo for Wedding Dress Hunting...

To get a feeler of what dresses are out there, I made an appointment to see some dresses by myself next month. My Mom felt that is soo Odd and said I should bring someone with me instead of going alone.

So I ask you this my fellow Bride Mates, how many of you actually went by yourself to go Wedding Dress hunting? Did you prefer it as oppose to going with a group?

Going Solo for Wedding Dress Hunting... - Long Island Weddings

If I didn't find my dress in the third appt I was going to go alone. I went first withy mom and sister/MOH, then with my best friend/BM and be third time went to a different place with 2 other friends - one that had bought her dress at the store. I needed to focus on what I wanted and I tried to pick people that would support that. But I was def ready to go solo, it's a lot to take in and was getting super frustrating. Do what makes you happy.

That's the same issue I'm having. I already have a few bridesmaids that are getting on my nerves even though I love them to death! So I sort of want to narrow down dresses that I do love and then bring the 'gang.' LOL

I only went with my mom. One appt she couldn't make it so I went alone. That was my favorite 'shopping' experience. I was able to really look at myself in all of the dresses without any opinions from the peanut gallery aka my friends, lol. When I went with just my mom it was fine too. I think the more people the more stressful! I saw lots of girls alone, and lots of girls with entourages. I say go for it and enjoy yourself!!

Re: Going Solo for Wedding Dress Hunting...

There was no way I was going alone. I knew I would need feedback! Like a second pair of eyes. I felt the salesgirl would try to tell me I looked good in everything just so I would buy it, lol. The first time I went with my parents and youngest brother. Second (and final) time was just my parents.

I didn't go alone, but I didn't involve anyone else except my mom & grandma.. It was too overwhelming to begin with, and I honestly didn't want 10 people's input

I went alone and found my dress immediately. I didnt let anyone see it until the wedding. I was the only one who had any idea about the dress until I walked down the aisle. I loved it. Everyone got to be surprised.

Re: Going Solo for Wedding Dress Hunting...

I actually did it backwards. went to 3 different salons with a small group. The first time was with my mom, and the last 2 were with my parents and MOH. I actually went yesterday on my own to the original dress shop (RK bridal-its the closest and easiest for me to get to) to try on the same dresses I tried on at the other shops to make sure I actually really liked the dresses. I was very close to saying Yes but felt that it would be odd to do it without anyone lol.

So I think its fine that you can go by yourself, it may help you narrow your search without alot of opinions swaying you.

GL!

Going Solo for Wedding Dress Hunting... - Long Island Weddings

I went with my Mom to one place and didn't see anything that cried out to me.
I then went to David's Bridal as I wanted to get the bridesmaid dresses there. Had 3 of my 4 bridesmaids and Mom there, it was one of the less important holidays and I knew my cousin wouldn't be teaching that day, friend is always off work on Mondays was the perfect time to go. Got their dresses tried on and purchased, went to lunch, came back and did mine, tried on about 6 but the first one suited me best. 2 of the girls in my party had picked it out together for me.

Good luck, and have fun whether alone or with someone.

I didn't go alone either. But, I purposely went with just my Mom and my sister. I know they knew better than to just interject with their opinions. They let me look at the dress and feel it out on my own, they they offered their opinions after I voiced mine. It was helpful to have the time to reflect on the dress myself.
