Going to a wedding How Much?

Hello ladies!

Yes I'm full of questions this week...next weekend I'm going to an ex-coworkers wedding...Sunday Afternoon at the Gatsby, second wedding.

I have stayed in touch with her and we are friends..I'll be inviting her to my wedding next year so I want to get this right...How much would you and FH give?

I was thinking $250 is that too little? or should I do $300?

Thank you ladies - Believe it or not I have never been to a wedding

and this year I have 2! I'm so excited because I finally get to go to them to see what it's like before I get married.

I thought it was around $250-$300, thank goodness I was in the ballpark. I feel bad for couples who have to go to 5-6 weddings a year!

Seriously...its sooo expensive!!! I am not looking forward to when all my friends decide to get married!!!
(although, i will be very happy for them!)

i spent as much as i could on my best friends wedding... but i was in the bridal party so i feel like i shouldve spent more

i think the shower gifts and the wedding gift together just barely came to $250... i feel like such a jerk now...

dont feel like a jerk...my feeling is you spend what you can! I am not going to be mad if i get a 'cheap' gift at my wedding. Its about celebrating not about making money!(yes i know a lot of us would love hte money too) butpeople do what they can!

I actually think being in the bridal party excuses you from giving such a big gift. I was in a friends wedding a year and a half ago and after paying for the shower with only the maid of honor, a generous shower gift, the dress, shoes and 3 nights in a hotel and travel expenses b/c it was out of state, I could not afford to give $300.

No, don't feel bad...you do what you can. I didn't even give my brother and SIL any money for their wedding. I gave them a gift that cost like $100...I just couldn't afford any more than that. They might have thought it was odd, but whatever...between the dress, shower, bachelorette, etc....it came to a lot of money.

I would also think that being in the bridal party you are not expected to spend as much only because you are paying for everything else - from your attire, accomodations, showers, bachlorette parties, etc.

It all adds up...I can only hope that my girls don't feel obligated to do so...because I totally understand how expensive everything is.

thank you girls for making me feel better... i just hope she wasnt offended... i mean ive hung out with her about a zillion times since the wedding and she hasnt said anything, but i suck.

and i feel like if i brought a guest i definitely wouldve been able to give her more cuz i woulda made him give me some money for it lol... i just feel like as her best friend i shouldve given more... especially because i really didnt do much for the shower... blah im a bad best friend.

I think thats fine for a coworker...believe it or not...I've heard of some guest not giving anything at all...but hey people have different financial situations.

You have to do what you can afford. I went to a wedding in October and could only afford $200 and my FH was not working at the time so money was not very good for us.

it's really what you can afford!

250 sounds fine...

Yup 1 yr i had 6 weddings! Ithink half of my summer weekends were done because of them.
