Going to a wedding... who do I write the check out to?
Who is the best person to write the check out to when going to the wedding so it's easiest for them to cash? I know they don't have a joint checking account. I'm friends with the bride...

I would always make it out to both in the new married name.

I just thought it would be easier for them to cash if I just wrote it to one of them. But I'll write it out to Mr. and Mrs. ___. Thank you!

Id esther write cash or the bride, You know she has a checking account , so do that .imo what if they havent opened a chcking acct yet & u write mr & mrs , they may have ahrad time depositing it ,

i always write to cash, while its nice to see the new married name on the check if they don't have a joint checking account they may have problems cashing it,

I definitely wouldn't make it out to both of them in the married name. I work in a bank. Make it out to Jane Doe OR Micheal Smith.

Even if I am friends with the bride I always write it out ot the groom and put a congrats message on the memo line. Most likely the groom is not changing his name... I just figure that it is easier that way.

it was such a PITA to cash the ones written to the both of us... you have to sign liike a million names!!!

Write it out to bride (maiden name) and groom. Write 'wedding gift' in the memo. I just did this last week and there was no problem with cashing the check. By the time I thought to check on it with my bank it had already cleared.
Mr. & Mrs. Married name is a PITA since you cannot change your name that fast.
ETA - we do not have a joint account and had no problem depositing checks written to both of us.

i dont think it is a good idea to write it out in the new married name. some banks may give a problem b/c of the name. also is she changing her name?

ETA: Even though I didnt change my name yet, we had no problem depositing our checks. We did have a joint acct though...

exactly. Some banks give you a hard time w/ 2 names on it, if it's not a joint account

Lately I've been writing Bride Maiden Name and Groom Last Name.
I do this for a few reasons.
1. The couple may not have a joint account yet and some banks will give you a problem (I know mine did, but DH's didn't) 2. It takes 2 weeks to a month to change your last name over 3. The bride might not be taking the groom's last name 4. I never like to write a check out to cash because God forbid they lose the check, then anyone can cash it!!!
