going to meet with the priest tonight.....

Just wondering for those of you who live together, did you have any problems with the start of pre-cana? We're doing pre-cana down here in Virginia and am meeting with the priest tonight and I know its going to come up about our addresses being the same....how did anyone address this?

I was sweating bullets over this one, but it worked out fine. FH and I are registered in the parish, so they already had our address.

We met with the priest and he had a four page form. He asked FH his questions first and then asked me. When he got to address, the priest simply said, 'same address?' and I responded yes, and the priest kept moving on to the next questions.

I did....It was really a terrible experience and kind of why I chose not to get married in the church. Its a long story but once my preist learned that we lived together, I was no longer treated like a person, and I couldnt see getting married by someone who only saw me for the 'bad' things that I did. I understand that living together by marriage is considered wrong to a priest, but all I expected was to be talked to like a person, not looked down upon because of my actions. Every priest and situation is different though, good luck!

Awhh that is terrible! I'm sorry that you were treated that way!

When we met with the priest he said he had to interview us separately and I volunteered to go first. When he asked my address I almost laughed because I was so happy I wasn't going second! My FH said the priest didn't say a word when he said his address was the same. So I am happy with the priest but still worried if we will have any problems when we go to pre cana.

It wasnt too bad the FIRST meeting with the priest to interview us and take our information, he didnt seem to care about the live in situation and yes he took us back 1 at a time to ask us questions like why do you love so and so , stuff like that BUT the SECOND meeting with the priest who married us UGH!!!! Yes he gave us a real hard time about us living together, said some real snotty remarks like why get married in the catholic church why not just go to the state and get your piece of paper!!! We were so pissed. Just stay strong dont let them bully you, thats what we did, and too bad its NONE of thier business how we choose to live even if its not rec by the church. They need to get with it, stop worrying about people living together and focus more on the priest that are behaving inappropiately!!! To me thats a sin! Any how good luck and dont worry about it, dont let them know you are worried either. Have fun!! Oh and pre cana NO PROBLEM they dont care!!
