Going to try on gowns alone

Going to try on gowns alone

has anyone done this? I have an appointment tomorrow, but so far the girls I wanted to be with me (my BM's) can't go. Would it look pathetic if I went alone?

No not at all you are prob better off than having everyone butt their 2cents in

Nope--not at all....after going twice with BM's and Mom...then once with Mom, I got tired of hearing the same thing-- 'You'd look great in a paper bag....they all look good, etc...'

I needed to get my OWN idea of how I felt in the dresses.....and the day I went on my own was the day I found the absolute one.

I highly recommend going on your own....that way you are true to yourself and not just what your friends are saying. JMO, of course.

No not at all...I think I might even prefer to go alone. I hope you find something you love!

The first day I tried on dresses, I went alone. I wanted to see how I looked before having my mom, sis and FSIL throw in their 2 cents.

WOW awesome on the responses. I haven't mentioned anything to my mom so maybe i won't and go alone. thanks for the advice.

My first experience my mom, aunt and FMIL were there and they all said no matter what u put on it will look nice. but i don't wanna hear that. i want that looks terrible on you or wow, thats the one. my aunt always puts her 2 cents in any convo. and this time was no different.

thank u for the encouragement. i'm so going alone tomorrow

the first time i went was with my best friend and my cousin, by the time i left the store i had a headache and was so confused i couldn't take it anymore. They tried to convince me that i had found 'the dress' but in my heart i knew i didn't but it was hard telling them to shut up!

I've gone to bridal showns and dress hunting with my 12 year old daughter. I had no one else to go with and I had to do what I had to do.

I went alone on my first (and only) day. Mom was upset, but I explained that I would probably only be there for 15 minutes and it wouldn't be worth the trip for her to go.

Wouldn't you know that I found a great dress and went back the next day with mom!

I went first with a friend (all BM oot) and my mom was a bit insulted...I then went back with my mom, MOH/sister, and grandmother before I bought it.... I say do whatever feels right....I'd probably bring people back before I made the final decision, but that's just me. GOod Luck and have fun!

I don't think so, I went alone and I loved it. I didn't have anyone doubting my choices and it was easier to decided by myself than with 4 or 5 other opinions.

this is great all these responses. listen to all your opinions and good ones. i have no fear of going alone. as all u have said. i won't have 3 people talking to me at once or telling me thats it even if i don't think so, etc. It will nice to have silence and me just focusing on me and not what other people r telling me to do.

Everyone have a nice weekend

I went once alone and totally enjoyed it. It was not stressful, I picked out the dresses I wanted to try on and got feedback from total strangers, which was actually helpful!

i did- and it was fine! i got to really figure out i liked. but i did have my FSIL with me for final approval when I went to actually buy the gown.

I did it. But, I was nervous about making a decision without a second opinion.

Re: Going to try on gowns alone

I picked my dress out in one hour. Make sure you look at magazines before going so you know what styles, designers you like. Then when you make your appointment tell them the dresses you want to see. I told my assistant very clearly what it was I wanted and after a few vain attempts on her part, she got the picture and brought me the dresses that suited my personality and shape.

Know what looks good on you always, don't pick something because it is popular, rather it should be flattering to your body type.

No, you will not look pathetic. Lots of brides go alone the first time. I think it's more difficult with mom, sister, MOH & BM in tow. They will have different opinions or they may all love you in a dress you hate.

I went alone, with a group & with one friend (not MOH or a BM). I preferred alone or one tag along with similar taste/style.

I think it is fine to go alone. You have to do what is best for you. I have two older sisters who I know want to be there when I go dress shopping. I decided to only bring my mother. My two sisters fight whereever they go. I just think that the 4 females in my family put in a cubicle for a few hours is a recipe for disaster. They may be pissed off but oh well. This is MY time, they can come to a fitting.

Honestly I would rather go alone until I find the dress, then have others come to see it LOL

I was so tired of hearing, I dont like this... bla bla bla when its what I loved. The dress I bought my MOH begged me not to buy it and then wouldnt talk to me on the way home!! She hated it that much. I basically said, boy I hope noone acts like this when you get married!
