Can anyone recommend a good jeweler who isn't crazy expensive, but honest - in NYC diamond district or Nassau County?
I was thinking of going to Tri-County in Levittown because there are a ton of booths there, but need to make sure we are getting a good deal!
We went looking at the Karat Shop yesterday and well, I found a ring I loved - I wasn't too sure of the honesty - kinda felt like he just wanted the sale....
HELP!
Thanks! Anna

i like the tri-county but you need to be careful because they'll try to sell you crap (and at a bad price). but if you know your stuff and bargain with them, you can do well.
check out bluenile.com to see what diamonds should cost (they'll be slightly higher than these prices in stores though so be aware of that)
good luck!

PICO Jewelers in the diamond district did great for FH. My diamond appraised for well more than FH paid and they helped design a setting with FH since I wanted yellow gold and yellow setting were few and far between. Good luck!

DH bought my E-ring at Leder's Jeweler's in RVC. His father goes there ALL the time for stuff for MIL. As for Tri-County, Turkan Jewelers and Gabriel Jewelers are great people with good prices and are both legit.

ETA: I think your instincts were right the the Karat SHop. I had a friend who had a not great experience there. Stay away fromt he chain jewelers, there's more markup there.
FH did a TON of research on what to look for when you buy a diamond before he bought my ring. He went to a number of places in the diamond district before he went to Pico and felt comfortable. A lot of places were pushy, trying to sell him things he didn't want and other places were shady. He said the jeweler here was very patient and took a lot of time with him. Make sure you do your diamond research first though, no matter where you go!

FMIL is a jeweler. She has the BEST prices and quality I've seen. And trust me I'm not just saying that because I could do without her sometimes lol...
I have a ton of jewlery from her she's been in the business 30 years. She works out of her house in Nassau and her motto is 'I'm the most honest out there because people know where I sleep at night' lol
Let me know if you want her info!

Gennaro's in Bellmore...Roseann was great to work with. We got my e-ring and our wedding bands from there. I highly recommend them.

Our jeweler has known FH's family for over 20 years and is extremely trustworthy, does not try to upsell. He's honest and has been great to everyone I send to him. He is in the Diamond District and can give you his info if you FM me!

My setting is from the Karat shop because they had crap quality diamonds.. FH got the center stone in South Carolina when he was visiting his parents.

Just an FYI that not all vendors at Tri-County sell crap. My wedding band came from Kraft Jewelers in Tri-County and appraised for much more than what I paid for it. It contains 14 diamonds.
Good luck to you!

I second that! We found my diamond at Good old Gold and picked out the setting from them. They put it together when the setting came in. Also, gave us the diamond appraisal report, which I was able to email to our jewelry insurance company. They are very knowledgeable about their diamonds and take pride in educating their customers. My fiance and I are going to get our wedding bands from them as well.

FH and I did a lot of e-ring shopping together. We really love the place we ended up choosing - Good Old Gold in Massapequa (I believe they are a vendor on here). They custom made my ring, and did a fantastic job! I recently went back and got my wedding band from them, later on we will go back for FH's band also. I worked with Marie, she was absolutely wonderful - highly recommend her! Have fun ring shopping!!!
