Got a call from a different Day Care center....should I consider it?
brand new, they don't even have certificate of occupancy yet....thye will be licensed for 240 kids....it'd be P/T until enrollment gets up there...she hopes I'd be F/T in 4-6 weeks. $8.50/hr though.....it's about a half hour away

have you checked up on them? Are they reputable or, since they're so new, is all their paperwork in order? What kind of a vibe do you get from them?
Yes, consider them, but try to do some research on them... like if they employ psycho-lying-back-stabbing-sociapaths like at the last place you worked!
good luck!

MonkeyLuv said it all, do your research, and weigh the options of gas and all.

a word of advice:
1. i agree with everyone to do your research on this place and make sure it is reputable.
2. i know that you will be TTC. In all fairness to this place, they need to know this. Especially since they sound like they are trying to get the business off the ground, they are probably looking for people that can help grow it, thus, they should know your plans. This goes for any place you interview at, for the simple reason that you don't know if you'll have to/want to go back to work after a period of time. Thus, you don't want to burn any bridges and you want to be able to use past places of employment as references.

I don't think you should say you may be TTC. You are obviously not legally bound to tell them you may be thinking of having a child in the future, and chances are they would not offer you the job.
What are the benefits? Good medical, etc? That is worth a lot. If it is $8.50 with no benefits, I would say probably not worth it IMO...

Then its obvious you don't want to work for that company that refuses to hire you on those terms.
Maybe if you are honest with the company up-front... and they hire you... maybe you won't get any of that 'talking behind the back' issues that happened with the last job.... eh?

Yes I agree on doing the research. Are you looking to just work P/T or F/T? Good luck and keep us posted!

thank you all for your opinions:
first, it's $8.50 an hr. PT or FT...probably not such great benefits (DH benefits have kicked in)
it's a chain, so they are all over the place down here
as far as telling them about TTC....I had told my other co-workers at the other job..she was just a 19 year old ghetto drama queen.....UGH.

Wow, that's a little harsh. I don't think she was in any way to blame for the talking behind her back. I just think as a woman no employer is entitled to know my decisions about my body before I make them, and honestly this may be something that a man might not be able to empathize with. Enough judgements are made about women based on their age and marriage status in terms of having children, and I wouldn't even tell my employer until I was a few months into the pregnancy since miscarriages run in my family. There are plenty of women out there who have accidental pregnancies, so why should women who plan far in advance feel some obligation to let an employer know? That line of thought just penalizes those of us who do plan in advance, because, having been on plenty of hiring committees, I would be less likely to hire someone who warned me they may be out for months on maternity leave while another candidate makes no mention of having to take time off.

Its not harsh... its reality. Look at it from the other side.
If you were an employer... wouldn't it upset you if you just hired somebody and they come in three months later and tell you that you are pregnant and demanding their maternity leave? And do you think that its just men that think this? LOL nope. That female boss you can have can very likely think the same way. After all... business is business.
Of course there are always exceptions to the rule. My job for example is family owned... and very respectful to people's life outside of work.
You are right about one thing... as a woman you are legally allowed to withold any information regarding getting pregnant or any of the sort. You are also allowed to dodge any question an employeer may ask or imply regarding this.
Does this mean that its the best course of action? Well thats a decision that must be made on a per-individual basis.
I think the best thing to do would be to discuss this with DH. After all... he is the only source of income currently. How long can you respectfully live on a single salary? If your reserves are starting to run low... I think its time to suck it up and agressively pursue the job and hope for the best.

I agree 100% that it really is no one's business when you are TTC. However, the harsh reality is that, if you want to re-enter the work force later, you're going to need references, and if you start a job and then leave it abruptly, you risk burning a bridge, and not having a reference later on.
It's a touchy issue indeed and it really depends on your future plans. if you plan on being a SAHM, then it really doesn't matter. But, if you're going to need to go back to work, you may want to consider it.
In a perfect world, private and professional shouldn't mix, but the reality is that it does.

And just for the record... yeah it sucks what happened at the last job... and it definitely wasn't her fault.
I am not saying that.
But I am also saying that job bickering and talking behind people's back at the workforce is a COMMON thing unfortunately.

i would NOT mention you are TTC, your personal life should have no bearing on your ability to do the job. you have no idea when you will conceive so why bring up something that could potentially bite you in the *** unnecessarily? you don’t 'owe' them anything - trust is earned, goes both ways, and takes time...
smart employers always have a plan B and can work around a maternity leave. company loyalty is a thing of the past and one should always be mindful of that. it sucks but unfortunately a new reality...not to say exceptions don't exist, but they are few and far between...
ETA: check out the option, you have nothing to lose at this point! good luck!
