got into a fight with fbil

this is kinda long, sorry. and please dont quote!!!

we had borrowed his car so we could take a load of FH's family members to a cake tasting (which was lame btw). So we are on the street switching back our cars afterwards and he gets into his car. i am taking my crap outta his car and he throws a dirty napkin out the window onto the ground. I say 'what are you doing?!' i was totally incredulous. he said 'what, whats the big deal? its just a friggin napkin' I said 'it is a big deal, dont be such a dlck' so i pick up the napkin, walk back to our car and when i turn around, he throws another napkin out the car window. so i yell 'what the f$&!' and then he starts yelling at FH. what the hell is her problem, its not a big deal blah blah. now FH is stuck in the middle. we drive away. FH tells me never to tell that to FBIL again, that he's never going to change, that i shouldnt talk to him like that. i told FH that he was acting irresponsibly and i called him on it which NO ONE in the family does cuz they're afraid of his crazy reaction.

what do i do now? should i call FBIL and apologize (although i so dont see why i should)?

please dont quote, thanx

I'm not the right person to ask, since I think you did nothing wrong and I wouldn't apologize...but then again you're talking to someone who is refusing to be pushed around by her FILs, at the expense of any sort of relationship with them whatsoever...but that's alright with my FH.

If your FH is upset and wanting you to apologize, then I'd call FBIL and just say something like 'I'm sorry for approaching you the wrong way about my frustration with your littering. Its something I'm very passionate about, but I should not have yelled at you'

That way you are apologizing for your behavior, but not the meaning.

Dont apologize, At some point people have to call him out on something.

IMO if anyone needs to do anything, your FH needs to call his B and say call my FW and apologize to her. Thats unacceptable. So rude and obnoxious. I dont think you have to do a thing. Hang in there. BOO to him!

OMG absolutely don't apologize! You have no reason to. your FH shouldn't ask you to!

i have totally gotten into a very similar fight with a friend of mine so i know how annoying it is.

this prob sounds stupid, but i totally appreciate your doing the right thing and standing up to FH's brother

I wouldn't apologize. But I'm also extremely stubborn so when I think I'm right I refuse to back down.

No. First off, on principle, people who pollute are the scum of the Earth.

Secondly, no reason for you to pussy-foot around him. Sounds like he needs a reality check and you're the lucky one to give it to him.

Apologize for what?????? He was the one being rude and when he realized he could get a rise out of you he did it again......so who is in the wrong here ??? def not u! he's an a-hole that doesnt like to be confronted about anything....

i think you just need to let life move on. next time you see him, act like it never happened (im sure he will be the same way). and keep it at that

in the future, just dont expect a lot from him about stuff like that

sorry u have to deal with somethin so childish...i mean, my 5 year oldniece knows better!

i think thats most liklely going to happen. neither of us are the caller/confronter types, although illana's advice was great. i dont expect a lot from him already. we have definitely had it out before. this isnt the first or the last time, so FH is going to have to chillax a little.
