got my first traffic tickets...

got my first traffic tickets...

I was pulled over by a cop for the 1st time last night! I had a headlight burn out. And he also gave me a ticket for not having my insurance card on me!

Any advice on clearing these up? I don't think these are the type of tickets that you get points for...but I'd rather not pay it if I don't have to...I think I can send in a photocopy of my insurance card and that'll be cleared up. But to clear up my headlight ticket, he told me to get the light changed and bring the receipt to the precinct by sundown today...well I only had time to get the light changed, so do you think I can bring the receipt in tomorrow? Or should I just pay it since I have no free time?

if I were you, I would send it back and claim that you are not guilty so that they give you a court date. It sounds scary, but a lot of times the cop doesn't even show up. And if he doesn't show up twice, they drop the ticket and any records of it.
Good luck!

For your headlight I would bring the receipt to the precinct as soon as you can to prove you got it taken care of within 24 hours and just say you did what he asked. As far as the insurance card I forget how it is in NY but I know in OH you have up to 30 days to prove you have drivers insurance and then that charge will get dropped.

Hi. Where did you get the traffic tickets? In Nassau, you need to bring in a letter from your insurance company that states that the car was insured on the date of the ticket. If you bring in the receipt that shows that the headlight was fixed, it should be dismissed. If you have any other questions, please FM me.

This advice is TOTALLY 100% correct ! ! ! My mom is a village clerk in Great Neck and I work traffic court with her!

It will be cleared up, is totally not on your license, and will not effect your insurance at all.
