its a felt tip pen and it usually comes with a blacklight. and you can write on a piece of paper and nothing will show on the paper to the naked eye...but if you put the blacklight towards it you can see what was written.
for weddings its helpful because for your RSVP cards you can number your guest list...and then number your RSVP cards to correspond with that guest list...
so say...aunt joanne is #1 on your guest list...you would mark the RSVP card you were mailing her with her invitation '1' and this way if somebody forgets to write their name on the RSVP card you can just use the blacklight to figure out who it is that is RSVPing

Definitely try toys r us - that's where I got mine. The package came with 2 pens, was about 10 bucks, and it's in the 'Spy Gear' (or Spy Wear) section...the people probably won't know what you're talking about, but that section is where it should be...
