Got the green light

from MIL to call her 'mom' or by her first name

Not bad after 8 years of dating. Hehe. Still I got all teary eyed when I read the email

Awwwww I got that email a few months ago.....she didn't say anything but then signed the email 'mom' with the quotes and all

You think it wasn't bad for 8 years of dating? How about almost 10?????

Too sweet! I was asked at Christmas to call them Mom and Dad.

That's what she did - signed it 'mom' or Patti

Guess I don't feel as bad about 8 when you had 10

That is sweet! I still call my FMIL Mrs. Godin I do not think she will ever ask me to call her anything else.

Thats great.

When we were driving home after he proposed we called his parents (though they knew) and I asked them there and then if I could call them mom and dad.

So its GREAT for you!!!!

I think this is weird personally. I don't call anyone mom but the one mom i have....is that weird????????

I think its different if you have parents that you're not close with or your parents are deceased, but I call my FIL's by their first name....but i call my GMIL (grandma in law)- GRAM...

Congrats! My MIL sometimes signs e-mails MOM and other times signs them w/ her name. What does that mean? I agree I would feel weird I can't do it. Lol I still refer to my parents as Mommy or Daddy. If I am on the phone with my mom I will say ask Daddy what he thinks lol. I am 25. I couldn't seem myself calling them Mom and Dad. I do the whole don't call them anything thing right now.

I call FMIL 'Mom' when I talk to FH, but to FMIL's face I call her by her first name.

Yeah i don't know if I'll be able to call her Mom - at least not in the beginning. I'm very close with my Mom (I also refer to my parents as Mommy & Daddy when I'm talking to my sis or to the other parent )

But it was nice that it wasn't signed Mrs. R and it was her first name - that was the big first!!
