Since Steven Scott is a house vendor for the Carltun I figured I would give it a shot and give them a call and find out from Steven Scott who they recommended. After speaking with terrence the Maitre'd he had suggested either Gotham or Jump Street. So that definetely made me feel alittle bit better, but I'm still hopelessly confused.

Re: Gotham from Steven Scott
Gotham is Steven Scott's PREMIER band. They do not do showcases because they do not have to. Their reputation speaks for themselves. They are the best in the business, that is why they charge what they do. It is also why they are booked so long in advance. Bands who play at showcases need to advertise, and often are unbooked for top dates. As far as having different members show up then you see on the video...if you are wise, make sure it is in your contract as to who must show up.

They also pay the catering halls that recommend them tons of money to recommend them. Not all bands can afford or choose to pay the catering halls to be recommended. Steven Scott charges more than a lot of bands. They give a cut to the hall. Keep that in mind when you take a recommendation from your hall for any of your vendors. I'm not saying they are not good bands, but just a recommendation from your hall does not make the band good. You have to like them and be able to afford them. Personally, I wouldn't book a band based on a DVD or CD. You will never see them live until your wedding day. If you have seen them live at another wedding and you like them, then go for it. It's too big of a decision and too much money regardless of their reputation. They have to rehearse sometime, can you go see them live at a rehearsal?

I didn't use Gotham, but I did use the Anthony Mills band from Steven Scott and they were absolutely wonderful. I too, was hesitant to book a band without seeing them play live but Steven Scott has an excellent reputation, and I had seen other bands of theirs play at weddings so I was not worried, and they ended up being fantastic.
Would they let you peek in at a wedding they are doing in the near future so you can at least hear them live? Its kind of intrusive but if that would help you make your decision maybe they would let you....

MY MIL best friend daughter is getting married & she already had a band booked but switched once she saw them. They are in Great Neck. I guess you will have to watch thier DVD. I also like Faze 4.

Thank you girls for all your feedback. I did end up booking Gotham, only because I knew that for them to sound that good on a DVD and a CD they had to be out of this world live. I also got an Italian specialist so that will cure my craving for needing an italian singer. He was also amazing ... the most beautiful and melodic voice and I can only compare him to Andrea Bocelli... not to mention he can sing ANY italian song and he's sung with Gothm before so they are confident working together... When I spoke to the Carltun they recommended two bands... one was a STeven Scott band (Gotham) and one wasn't. After all this contemplating... I decided to go with my gut instinct and book Gotham. I am extremely confident that they will do a phenomenal job and I can't wait. Thanks again ladies!

I think you'll definitely be happy with them, we looked at them (on a DVD) when we were searching for our band and they were fantastic!

I didn't book my band because my caterer recommended him. They actually recommend Hank Lane, who was cheaper and obnoxious to deal with. I chose my band b/c of their sound and reputation. Of course I would never go 'peek' at someone elses wedding to hear them. If I saw someone 'peeking' at mine I'd go ballistic! Why would I want some random person in jeans at my black tie wedding?!

See i on the other hand would have no problem with a future bride coming to my wedding just to sneak a peek at the band. I've heard of alot of people doing this before, and as long as you arrange it with the catering hall and they could escort you in and out, then it shouldn't be an issue at all. It would be discussed before hand that they came dressed up for a wedding not like they just walked off the street. I've heard of this being done time and time again and would have no problem with it if someone asked. JMO.

Exactly! I think people who are planning their own weddings would have enough respect for the bride and groom to not just show up like they just stepped out of the gym! You're there as an observer from a distance for a couple of minutes---not joining in on the dance floor with the guests!!
Anyway, jng268, congrats on making your choice, and good luck with your big day!
