Gown Shopping

Gown Shopping

Hi All,

I am going gown shopping next weekend and I am just wondering what I need to wear when I try on? Do I need to bring a strapless bra, corset, pantyhose, shoes, etc? What do you guys think?

Also, do the bridal shops have every size dress to try on when you are there? I am definitely larger than a size 10 and that is what they usually have to try on for bridesmaid dresses.

Thanks for the help ladies!

Re: Gown Shopping

If you have a strapless bra I suggest wearing it. The places I went to provided me with a corset and bra. Don't worry too much about size because if it's too big the person that is helping you will pin it in the back and if it's too small just suck it in!!!! Have a great time!!!!

they have shoes there they you can put on ...i dont think that I even wore shoes ..... I wore a bra that the straps came off and panyhose - they dresses are usually btwn 10's and 12's they will put these clips in the back so you can see what it looks like and they will give you a slip to put on under also!

Have a Blast and let us know if you find something -

Wear decent underwear (meaning I wouldn't wear a thong or see through panties) and a strapless bra. Remember whoever you bring with you and the woman assisting you will be in the room with you.

Thanks ladies. However if I am a size 14-16 street clothes, does that mean that my dress will have to be a size 20? Do they have size 20 dresses to try on?

Thanks!

I wore a thong the day I tried on dresses! My mom was with me and she was mortified! I thought it was funny!

So who did you guys bring with you? How many people? I invited my mom and my sister, but my friend and her mom may be there too...can they wait outside? I really don't want that many people in the room!

I just got fitted for a BM dress and I am too b'twn a 14/16 and they ordered me a 20!!!! I was so upset!! If the dress is too small then they just wont zip it in the back, don't worry it will be ok.

You don't have to have every one with you in the dressing room. There wouldn't be enough room for that anyway. When I went it was always just me and the attendant, if that, I requested to just do it myself and most of the time they agreed. Only one place insisted someone be in there with me. You'll put the dress on and then come out and step in front of the mirror to model it for every one. Just don't worry, and have fun with it!! Def keep us updated on how it goes!!
