Gown Shopping

I was just thinking about when I should begin gown shopping. Any recommendations on when is a good time to start? 1year before the wedding, a 1 1/2 before? I have no idea. My wedding is 11/10/11. Thanks!

You can start whenever you like..I'm getting married in April 2011 and I already started slowly looking

Some designers can take up to 9 months to make the dress (i've heard)

Re: Gown Shopping

I just started dressing shopping yesterday and I'm a year and 6 months away... I mentioned in another post that I would've bought it on the spot, but since I have so much time, I'm going to look around. I loved how the dress looked on me and I feel so COMFORTABLE in it. Amazing!!! I didn't think I wanted or liked but feel in love with!!

The woman told me you should order at least 9 months before the wedding. I would start ripping out styles that you like in magazines.

I'm not at that stage yet but FYI my girlfriend started looking 10 months before her wedding and actually couldn't order one that she wanted b/c it took 9 months to get in and then you have to allow for fittings. Start now!

Re: Gown Shopping

It depends on the designer because some take 10 months to come in. Or if you buy your dress in RK Bridal most dresses there only take 4 months. I recently went there and they told me it doesn't take long to come in. I would begin looking at styles and designers and do a search of where they sell those specific designers you like. You can always call up the store and find out.

Re: Gown Shopping

I'd shop no later than 9 months before the big day. Some places, like mentioned in the above posts, claim the dresses take as long as 8 months to order.

I didnt start dress shopping until mid September and my wedding day is October 2010. I bought my gown at Davids Bridal and lucked out because I loved the dress the minute I put it on, and the price was extremely affordable. I was prepared to spend 3-4 months shopping for a gown...Since you are a 2011 Bride, I'd just look at Gowns in bridal magazines, internet sites and pictures - and just cut out what you like, and get an idea of dresses and designers that interest you. This way you wll be a more informed shopper when you walk into Bridal Gown stores and talk to the salespeople, they can just direct you to the specific designers, etc.

HTH.

you can start shopping whenever you feel like. My wedding isn't until May 2011 and I have been dress shopping about 5 times now. I just don't plan on making a final decision and ordering a dress until I am about a year out.

Re: Gown Shopping

I just started looking by accident. I was with my sil having lunch and we were near a bridal so we went in. I ended up trying on a couple of dresses (one that i totally fell in love with) and now I cant wait to try on some more lol. I have definitely begun searching even though my wedding is around the same time as yours.

I would begin shopping whenever, although I won't wait less than 10-12 months........I am in the process now and hope to have mine ordered by xmas!! They usually say 4-6 months, sometimes 8 tops.....

It really depends on you and if you are searching for a specific style/designer. If you are flexible on your dress you can start looking whenever and start trying on different styles and research sample sales, trunk shows, etc. Good luck and Congrats!!!

Re: Gown Shopping

I started looking around and trying on about a year and a half before the wedding. I had a span of maybe 3-4 mos. where I didn't dress shop at all and then in August/Sept. I went on a dress shopping rampage and finally purchased my dress in Sept., about 9 mos. before the wedding.

I started a year before and got it in the 3rd place I looked at; it was almost a year to the date!
