Ok so my grandma has 18 grandchildren and 15+ great grandchildren so she has never had the money to go overboard with presents...etc. In fact, I dont even get a Bday present anymore (stopped at age 18).
Anyway for my shower, she wants to get me a wedding book?!? I guess it is something you write yor family tree in, how you and FH met, etc and all your shower attendees and presents, etc, etc. Problem is I already have a wedding planner book, which is similar. I dont know what to say without hurting her feelings but I'd rather just have the $30. Is this mean? I hate feeling this way but I dont think I will use it and I kinda mentioned my wedding planner book all ready! She mentioned that she got this for all my cousins so far and they loved it. (PS - I think my mom has one).

Do you really need the $30? Just take the book, smile and thank her.
One day you will look at that dusty old book and be so grateful that you did!!

Ditto...i would give anything to have something i dont need from my grandma just so i could look back and know that she gave it to me. At least she is putting thought into it.

it seems like its a bit of a tradition for her to give it to the ladies in your family so i would take it. maybe its because my grandmother is terminal but anything she gives me i treasure. she gave me a not so pretty bathroom set (soap dish, toothbrush holder) but i still kept it because it may be the last thing she ever gives me.

i agree, its something that will mean alot for her to do for you. I understand you have a wedding book already but the one from your grandmother is of sentimental value, i think its real sweet. I would take the book over the money any day.

Re: Grandma's Shower Gift...ughhhh
my grandmother didnt even get me a shower gift and that was 100% fine with me, her being here is more than enough. She lives in another country but came in december and is staying for 6 months to be here for all the wedding festivities, this means more to me than anything. She has no money, does not work and just whatever my dad gives her everyday for groceries and whatever. My other grandmother cant even be here my grandfather is sick and she can't leave him, i would've given anything to have her also at my shower or to be here for my wedding. FH will have one living grandparent at our wedding. Cherish what you do have while you still have it.

aww she is sweet though & it seems to be a little tradition for her. UNless your mom wants to give her a suggestion on what to get, I would say just keep it as a keepsake. I have a second planning book that I am rewritting everything in neatly after the wedding as my keepsake

I agree with the previous posters. Just take it and smile. She probably sees this as more special than giving you $$.

My Grandma is making me a money bag for the wedding, even though I wanted a card box. But I will take her money bag and be happy because it means a lot to her.
It doesn't take much to make grandmas happy.

my family doesnt have traditions like this bc showers are not part of our culture so its not something theyve been doing for generations, i am the first. Ive been to showers and saw so many traditions, and i said i wish i had one, i was actually a bit upset about this before my shower. I mean now my shower is over and i had a great time and didnt care about what wasn't done.
