Why is my wedding the same day as the Puerto Rican day parade? nothing against anyone who is Puerto Rican - but don't know if i should start my limo's earlier because of traffic or leave them as is. And If I start them earlier, I may not have them for as long as i need!

I think it depends or where you are traveling to. If you are not traveling in manhattan or where they have an informal one in brooklyn on one of the avenues in bushwich, then I think you are okay. And I think alot of the traffick is not going its when it ends. But that's if you are in the city. Hard to say as I don't know where you are traveling to and from.

Re: Great, just great!
if it gives you peace of mind, then start your limos earlier
try to get people to spread the word to your guests, esp those that have to travel through the city to get to the wedding
my wedding is the same weekend as the nyc marathon so i feel your pain

Re: Great, just great!
call the limo company and let them know about the parade so maybe the can find a different route that would have less traffic. sorry

we don't have to go t hrough Manhattan at all and neither do any of my guests, however, we do have to cross th BQE which is riddled with traffic on a good day and i'm hoping this won't make it worse! I really can't start my limo' any earlier because i already added an hour of overtime to my Rolls Royce and my Escalade and don't want to add more time on top of this. Our RH is near Coney Island in Brooklyn and apparantly there is a huge congregations of Puerto Ricans there every year for the parade

Well no offense taken as a Puerto Rican btw.
I think while traveling over there....there is ALWAYS traffic on a good day. So i think cross your fingers and pray! What time will you be traveling. If it is early then maybe it won't be too bad.

I would suggest adding time before the wedding because I have heard of many companies asking for the overtime charges on the day of the wedding and you don't want to deal with that on your big day. And the overtime rate is much higher than just adding extra time beforehand.
Maybe you can call the company and ask their suggestion - they deal with this stuff all the time I am sure.

The mass begins at 2pm. I was planing on leaving my house at 1pm. On a good day with no traffic I am about ½ away from the church, so i am hoping that extra ½ will be enough. Not to worried on getting from the church to the RH because we can take local streets instead of hopping on the highway

Re: Great, just great!
I think at that point everyone will already be at the parade, as most of them start at 12.

Re: Great, just great!
Make sure your limos know another route especially if you're going to be traveling towards the parade. I know the feeling, we arre from Nassau and our weddings the friday of labor day weekend. Not that were traveling that for out east, but I'm worried about trtaffic too! Not only is it that weekend and people travel tto the hamptons n montauk, but it's def going to be rush hour! Hope it works out for you!

Re: Great, just great!
I wouldn't worry, Antonella. The Riviera is kind of tucked away....it has like its own block! I doubt you're going to run into any issues.
And I doubt the traffic will be any worse than usual. We'll be taking the Van Wyck from Marine Park to Leonard's, and the Van Wyck always stinks....I'd plan on the normal amount of traffic but its not a bad idea to voice your concern to the limo company, so at least they're aware that you're concerned.
