FH is with the Inspector looking at the house we bid on and he just texted me that it is not going well. Thinks are not looking good.
Update- The house is not structurally sound. It needed a new roof, updated electric and plumbing. We had to pull out of the deal

Don't worry- a lot of times that means that you negotiate the price down or they fix things- not bad news at all & very common.

They actually said the structure could not even be fixed. There was no basement, just a crawl space and it was supported by 2 by 4's.
We are looking in Nesconset, St. James, Smithtown, East Northport, Huntington. All around those towns. Thank you.

Absolutely! FMIL's friend had this happen to her. She's stuck because she can't afford to fix it and she can't sell it!

I also feel terrible for the owner. FH said she was hysterical crying.

Aw, what a terrible situation. But everyone is right, its good you found out now instead of later. Its one thing when a house needs cosmetic work....a whole OTHER thing when it needs structual work $$$$$$

Re: Great!- Update
i agree! my parents just sold the house ive been living in for 25 years, and the engineers were here 2 weeks ago with the the girl who is buying it, and i was so nervous because i dont know CRAP about this house... she had to pay the engineer like $500 for the inspection... i would say to you that that is money WELL spent!!! you dont want a roof collapsing on your heads! keep looking... it's a buyers market right now... good luck to you!

Re: Great!- Update
Better to know this now. My friend bought a house a few years ago. The foundation is shot and he's losing his entire savings to fix it and they want to have a second child. Good for you that you found out. Just think of that 'it wasn't meant to be' thing... you will surely find the perfect home soon

I know you don't want to hear this right now, Jess...but I'm sure you will find something you like better.
We had a similiar issue with the house we almost bought too...I was devistated...and now that I'm in my house and think back about the other one...this house is soooooo much nicer. I'm so happy it fell through. You'll get there...
