Has anyone ever been there? FH and I just wanted some insight on some places of interest and the islands there. We're staying on the island of Crete, which is one of the biggest islands and we're staying for 10 days. Any help would be appreciated

Re: Greece
I went to Greece a few years ago. I would recommend traveling around the islands. it's very easy to do so on the ferries. Although it might be a long ride from Crete.
Santorini and Mykonos are great. Delos is also a beautiful island that is an entire archeoligical ruin unto itself. You can't spend the night there, but you can go for a day trip and visit the ruins.
In Crete I visited the ruins at Knossos. They were also beautiful.

Re: Greece
I was just in Greece for part of my Honeymoon. We were in Athens and Santorini. Santorini was abosolutely beautiful and very relaxing. I want to go back and visit more of the islands. Hope you enjoy!

Re: Greece
I would definitely visit the other islands. We went to Athens, Crete, Rhodes, and Santorini for our HM. We absolutely loved Greece. We liked Santorini the best, then Rhodes, then Crete, and then Athens. We flew in between the islands, except we took a ferry from Crete to Santorini. I definitely wouldn't miss out on the opportunity to see Santorini. It's phenomenal. You can FM me for more information.

Re: Greece
Add me to the Greece thread! FH are close to booking (have booked the airfare already). We are in all likelihood starting in Athens for 2 nights, then going to Naxos for 4 nights and Santorini for 5, then back to Athens for a night before catching a plane the next morning. We wanted more time to explore each place and just relax and not travel too much.
BHW (I think we may have FM'd about Greece already -- glad you had a good time!), maybe you'd have a better idea, but others can chime in as well: we got a quote for about 1,900 euros (about $2,250) per person including all hotels, breakfasts, ferries and transfers, but not airfare. The hotels include three-star places in Athens and Naxos, and a very nice four-star one in Santorini, where we wanted to splurge. I think it would be $2,600 to stay in all four-star. Does this sound like a good deal?? The price does include a flight from Santorini back to Athens, and we might just change that to a fast boat if that saves us much more $$.

I think it sounds like a good deal especially in June which is the high season. The flight from Santorini to Athens should be pretty cheap (no more than $100-$150 per person, maybe even less). We took a ferry from Crete to Santorini, which was fine, but I've heard the ferries can be really rocky. One of my co-workers, who went on his HM in June 2004, took the hydrofoil from Crete to Santorini and said most people got seasick. Since the ferry from Santorini to Athens would be pretty long, I'd suggest you take a flight back. Also, the ferries can get cancelled due to bad weather. You're going to have such a great time. FM me if you have any more questions.

Re: Greece
I went to Athens and Mykonos. Greece is amazing. Mykonos is party central at night, but I would highly recommend going there for a day. Crete is the furthest out, but Santorini is not that far from Crete and I have heard many times that Santorini is the most romantic place for a HM. I'm sure Crete looks the same. You guys are going to love it there!

Santorini is incredibly romantic. It's one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. It doesn't look like Crete at all. Santorini is very unique b/c it was created from a volcanic eruption. Many of the restaurants have views of the water. The town of Oia (where we stayed) is known for its sunsets. Our hotel was built into the cliffs as are several hotels in that area. One of my favorite parts of the trip was walking down from our hotel to the Amoudi harbor and swimming in the Aegean sea. There was an area where a lot of people go swimming and the water is so clear and calm.
Crete is absolutely beautiful you are going to love it there!! You can do day excursions also by catching a ferry (probably the dolphins- a FAST ferry) and going to another island nearby. I would def stop off at Athens if you can. Out of islands Santorini is great but it gets very touristy - I would try Paros, or Samos!! Pretty much all the islands are GORGEOUS! It just depends if you want the tourist crowded ones or the quiet and subtle ones!!
Good luck!

Yes. We went to Athens, Crete, Rhodes, and Santorini for 12 days. You can definitely go to several islands during a 2 week visit.

Re: Greece
another dumb question....do you think going to Greece at the end of April is a stupid idea? I looked it up and the average temp that time of year is like 60 degrees...but i dont want to postpone our HM until June....
i guess i just always imagined my HM being spent on beaches and warm weather
