Re: Greek Brides??
My FMIL is great also... she is more Americanized cause she's first generation, so there si none of that sneaky greek MIL stuff.
I could probably drop by that Saturday (the 13th). Since FH lives in Brooklyn and he gets home from work relatively late and goes to sleep early, we really don't get to spend much quality time together (unless you count an hour here and there) and Saturday is usually when we do 'couple things' like hanging out with our koubari, dinner drinks, etc... so that is why I am hesitant to commiting to a Saturday night. Sorry to be a party pooper... I will stop by and say hello, but probably will not stay long

Mine isnt as Olga already knows - FH is one of 6
Girls, since when are they allowed to smoke at Remi? I thought the smoking ban was for everywhere - the one thing that I hated about clubs was the smokey smell that your clothes reeked of the next day. After they placed the smoking ban in buildings I was so happy! Now I have to aerate my clothes again after sat night

Re: Greek Brides??
I am surprised Remi is the only place allowing smoking and the rest of them have not. I think the bars are really going to suffer in the winter. How much do you plan to spend on the koubaro's gift? What if you have a koubara and a koubaro? I have no idea!

Re: Greek Brides??
My Fh has four older brothers, so he is the youngest.Since his brother is our Koubaro (and there is no koubara) we plan on getting him something really nice, like a really nice watch. Probably won't spend more that $1000. My Koubaro is really cool too- he let me pick out the stefana and boubounieres!!

Re: Greek Brides??
My FH is the oldest of three sons. And FMIL is awesome. She really rocks. Although I will probably limit the what do you think questions to caveat them. This what I already purchased... what do you think, rather that this is what I'm thinking of getting, etc...

Re: Greek Brides??
My husband has an older sister. She is married and has two kids. My mil is a sweetheart. She treats me like my own. I am so happy that we all get along. My inlaws live in Greece but we talk at least once a week.My mom & sister threw my shower. It was supposed to be a surprise but I knew about it. Oh well....
I can't make it either saturday.
I have a wedding on the 6th and I am traveling for work on the 13th. Maybe next time for me. I love greek pastries but I don't know how to make them.
Baklava are my favorites.

Re: Greek Brides??
I could never do it. I love NY too much.
Greece is wonderful for vacation but I think their 'no system' ways would be too much for me.

I dream about it often. I think if I felt better about or rather more confident in my Greek language skills I would in a minute.

Re: Greek Brides??
Olga,To answer your questions about move to Greece. No, hoestly I haven't been there THAT often. Only 5 times in my life. In my experiences, not only in the touristly island life, I truly think people live better lives there = quality of life.
Also, given the new economy, I think times will be tough for many Greeks over the next few years, but it also a HUGE opportunity for someone willing to make sacrifices and has an entrepreneurial spirit.
Also, don't have kids yet. But I think it would be a better place for them to grow up.
Parents have retired and are spending more and more time there. In excess of 6 mo. So, GM and GP for my kids would be there too.

Re: Greek Brides??
I agree with you with quality of life. This country is full of workaholics and especially in this area, you have to work your tooshie off just to make ends meet and pay the mortgage!I dunno - FI would LOVE to move there - he has TONS of family there that he is close too. He was born there and has spent just a smidgen under half his life there. All summers and a bunch of times during the year
I have no one =( I've been there 3 times in my life and my parents don't keep in contact with family down there, so I'm averse to it beause I LOVE my fam ily and could never ever leave them. Hrmm I see many a fights ahead lol
