Re: Greek Brides??
Hi, I am another Greek bride getting married in 2005. I am not completely familiar with the Greek ceremony. My fiance is not Greek but is happy to get married in the church for me and my family. Could you tell me about how long the ceremony usually lasts and if I should know anything. I have a while so I'm not meeting with my priest for a few months. Thank You!

Re: Greek Brides??
Hi, thanks for responding! Yes, we are going to have my brother stand up for us. Do you know of any places on LI that sell crowns or is he better off going to Astoria?

Re: Greek Brides??
I am actually getting married at a new church that is being built on Rt107, it was called Church of the Resurrection ,in Glen Cove. I do not go to this church, but my father found the priest that married him and my mother in Ozone Park 30 years ago! He is the priest of that church and my father called one day and he happened to answer the phone. It was very strange how it happened, but my family is very excited. The church is supposed to be finished in June 2004.

Re: Greek Brides??
Welcome Christine! I am getting married close to your church (the Metropolitan in Glen Cove). We even considered getting married there to make it more convenient for our guests (even though I love my church), but it would not be finished by our wedding date.I don't know if I would move to Greece. Somedays I say yes, in a heartbeat and others I say no, never, not in a million years! I agree that their quality of life is sooooo much better now... but I think that's going to change soon. Everything is so expensive and yet the people there make in a month what a lot of people here make in a week.
ALso, I don;t know if you heard... one of my dad's navy buddy's son was killed in Greece recently. The family had moved to NY a long time ago and then moved back 25 years ago so that they could have a safer and better life. The son owned a bar, and an alvano got into a fight so the son kicked him out... and the alvano killed him. I know things like this have happened here, but now they are happening there too. Things are definitely changing, and I dont think it's for the better.
And on a sidenote... and I will probably delete this in a couple of days because I dont want to reinforce stereotypes... I hope the guy on Queer Eye is Straight! I was watching Blind Date last year and it was in Ibiza. Well, the guy on the date was a guy from Greece. The couple was talking about their sexual pasts... and wouldn't you know it, the greek said that he had, well you know, he did you know what with other guy....
So the girl asked if he is gay or bi... and he said he is not either, He is straight because he was the giver, not the receiver!!!!!!

Re: Greek Brides??
That is great Angela!!FH wanted to do that with me - but i started looking around and getting all interested in different places - he started hinting Bora Bora and I simply fell in love! So, although I know the location - he is going to book the hotel and everything else honeymoon related without telling me.
I am sure your FH will come up with a fabulous place!!

??Re: Greek Brides??
Question for all of you. What exactly does one do at an egagment party (role of bride or groom). What objects besides rings and icons does one need to do the whole blessing thing.PS...
Welcome Christine!!!!

Re: Greek Brides??
Lenitsa- For the e-party you need a tray with koufeta and an icon, the wedding rings (we had our wedding bands blessed), and also a candle. That's all i can think of now.

Re: Greek Brides??
No the koufeta scattered on the tray. I didn't give out boubounieres with my favors at my e-party because i wanted to give out my first boubouniera at the wedding. HOwever, i have been to some e-parties that they have given out boubounieres.

Re: Greek Brides??
I have great news!! As most of you know, I picked out my boubounieres and I bought my stefana from a really nice place in Kolonaki in Greece. My dad is bringing home our stefana next week because they weren't ready for us to pick up while we were there. As for the boubounieres, I found ones that I absolutely loved and I pre-ordered them. However, I wanted to bring one that was already made back home with me so that I could show my mom, but they wouldn't sell me one. Well, my aunt went to pick up my stefana today and they gave her one of the boubounieres!!! YAY!!! I am sooo happy!
