Re: Greek Brides??

I am going to hear Powerstation tonight! FH and I are going out to dinner first and then headed to Crescent Beach Club to hear them. I am so excited - has anyone done this before? Gone to a wedding to hear the band? Where do you stand - i dont want to interrupt or bother anyone at the wedding.

Re: Greek Brides??

The band usually tells you either to go up near them or to stand somewhere else lol Call and ask - play it off like you are calling to confirm

Re: Greek Brides??

Olga: I did a quick search and found this website - http://www.mvsweddinginvitations.com/english/international.asp

Although I would think, like you said, your best bet would be Markella's in Astoria or one of the other greek places.

OK girls let me tell you about my expierence yesterday. I am so *P*I*S*S*E*D*!!!! Well FH and I went out to dinner first because the wedding started at 7 - so we went to Steve Pier's 1. We had our nice dinner and then went over to Crescent Beach Club at 8:30 - thinking the wedding would be going strong and the music would be playing and we coudl hear without really interrupting. Umm well - we go, go upstairs and just stand outside the door closest to the band listening. We were outside of the actual room. The way Cresence Beach Club is set up you go through one door and there is an outside area where the bar is and there are other tables. There are then many doors wich were open leading to the room wiht the tables and the dance floor. When we were there the music being played was the bouzouki guy playing a modonna song- i forgot whcih one- so a woman singer started singing to it. Fine we are sitting there listening minding our own business not bothering anyone when a waiter comes up to as and asks us if we need anything - FH should have said no but instead says we are just here to hear the band. The guy says no you need to leave this is a private party. We just look at him - he goes calls anohter waiter and that waiter tells us that we arent invited guests of the bride and groom so we have to leave. I explain that we were told to come by the band and we are only going to listen for a little bit. Nope they kick us out. FH and I were so annoyed - and FH was just shocked that 'fagame porta' (ate door). I was so p*ssed. We called Powerstation but no response so just decided to go home so so so upset. Thankfully there was one thing that brightened my might - We were driving through oyster bay to get ot the norhtern state and we just happened to pass by creative compositions - one of the photographers that we are interested in. So we stopped and looked at their window set up.

I am going to call Powerstation and seriously scream at them for not telling us that we coudl be kicked out. I called about a week ago and he insisted that we go hear them at a wedding. I had told him that I knew they play at Remy and he said no you want to hear us at a wedding - so I said fine. FH called on Saturday to double check time and place and the guy acted as if he didnt know who he was or what he was talkign about. meanwhile i gave my full name to him when I called. He even told FH that they play at Remy so we can go hear them there - that was my original plan but he was the one that insisted that we go hear their band at a wedding. UGGGHHHHH!!! Right now Acoustical Fantasy is looking mighty fine! We havent received their demo tape yet -but i cant wait to hear it.

Has this every happened to anyone? I felt like such a moron last night.

Re: Greek Brides??

UGH That totally ****s! I keep hearing with them either you have a great ride or a totally horrible one! Did you at least get to hear them? I thought Marcela was told to go to Remi to see them, not to a real wedding. One of the bands I looked at told us that a lot of places wouldn't let people listening to the band in so they had to set me up with a date to see them at a venue that is condusive to it. Powerstation should have known better

Re: Greek Brides??

They totally should have let us know. That is what i am so p*ssed at. We heard them all of one minute and it wasnt even agreek song - so i dont know what the singer sounds like and I dont even know how well the bouzouki plays.

WHen I called i mentioned that we can go listen to them at Remy and he insisted that we would want to hear them at a wedding. Fine- i wasnt going to complain about that - i thought that woudl be great. But this - He is going to have some explaining to do when i give him a call.

Re: Greek Brides??

Wow, that really stinks. I would be so p-o'd! You were not doing anything wrong. I think its bad to go sit and have a meal. then you're trespassing.

We saw two bands at weddings... Usually we dressed up a bit so that we don't look suspicious and we usually walked in and sat at the band's table.

We had gone to one at crest hollow... and I forgot the name of the bride and groom... so I said to the receptionist :'i m here for the greek wedding' and wouldnt you know it, there were two greek weddings! so we were caught. i told the lady the truth. she ended up being nice. the maitre'd brought us in through the back door, sat us at the band's table and offered us drinks. But she said that they usually don't do that.

Chris Zavolas is really nice. I might offer to let him bring people to listen if he wants. They could sit in the next room. Makes it easier on the band and the couple who wants to hear them.

We still have limos and invites. I really like a couple of the NuArt invites, but I have not seen them sold around here (then again, i have not looked much either), anyone using the internet? any other recommendations for invites and limos?

Olga, are you having problems with your photographer?

Re: Greek Brides??

I've been trying to get in touch with him and left messages like weeks ago and nada. A couple of other girls have been having troubles with him too. This guy is definetly tough to get in touch with. We'll see though.

Just more fun times in the wedding processs

Re: Greek Brides??

I am so depressed about wedding stuff today. I cant get through to Powerstation - FH is deadset against using them now because of yesterday. I am almost feeling.

I was going to work until Tuesday and take W-F off because classes start on Sat - yes I have a 9 oclock staturday morning class !! But, i have been overloaded at work and am going to work Wed to finish this all up so i dont get stuck with dealing with it during school - I am working between 1-2 days a week while taking classes.

And - my MOH is going to greece for 2-3 weeks. So i probably wont go dress shopping until she gets back. She totally needs the break so i am happy she is going but still was hoping to do some dress shopping this week. I might just go with another friend of mine. I'll see.

Sorry to blab on girls - just was feeling down.

Deby: I was looking at weddingtulle for invites. They have one that I really like, but I have gone and fallen in love with the really expensive encore box invites. I ordered a lot of samples online from various sites and didnt like the quality of the invites. It might have been just the invites I was choosing. Wedding Tulle seems to have better quality ones that are quite unique.

Re: Greek Brides??

OMG Georgia I swear Powerstation is pi$$ing me off and off and off. The guy that runs it, is freaking clueless. He told my FFIL one price and sent a contract with another price. W T F?? So FFIL called him and told him that he wouldn't pay the extra $200 b/c that's not what they agreed upon. $200 is not a lot of money and FFIL would have NO problem paying it, but it's the freaking point
The guy at powerstation told us to go see Nick at Remi. I guess he told us that since we've already seen Papastefano at a wedding last month.

Georgia, I'm going to have FFIL call powerstation again and ask them when exactly Nick is coming back from Greece. When I get an answer I will post it and maybe we could meet up.

Hey, Maybe we could all meet up and make a night out of it???????

Edited to add: I think these are the invites we're going with:

Its an Encore Expressions of Love (Style no G5082). It looks MUCH nicer in person

Re: Greek Brides??

Speaking of invites - I saw a catalogue called Celebration that had a 'Perfect Pair' with 2 pears on it. Just though I'd pass it along.

Olga: Where did you get the catalog from? I am going to search online for it. I am still in search of the perfect 'perfect pair' invite. Thank you!!!

Marcella: I would love to meet up to hear Powerstation. We all should definitely make it a night! Greek LIWedding Night!!
Those invites are very pretty!!!

I just got the demo for Acoustical Fantasy. I actually love the band. THe clarino is so good!! I still want to hear Chris' voice live though - so FH and I will probably go to Plato's one night when he comes back from Greece.

Even though Powerstation has acted jerky - i still want ot hear them.

Re: Greek Brides??

Georgia,

Just so you know the clarino on the demo for AF is NOT the clarino they usually play with. Also, the lead female vocalist is also different. I have heard that clarino they use, Haliyiannis is good. I'd like to hear them first hand.

Has anyone spoken with Mike from AF recently? He was supposed to get back to me with some 411.
