Hi, I am planning our honeymoon to the Greek Islands..we want to spend most of the time in Santorini, just based on hearing it's everyone's favorite, most romantic, etc. And then I know most ppl visit Mykonos, but I keep hearing it's either their least fav, wish they went for just a night or two, or worse...that it's the Cancun of Greece! Anyone have any thoughts about this? I was thinking of skipping Mykonos altogether and visiting one of the less popular islands like Paros, Corfu, or Crete... Do you think i'll miss out by skipping Mykonos? Thanks!!

We skipped Mykonos on our honeymoon. We went to Santorini and Crete for our honeymoon and we were so happy we went to Crete!!
I've never been to Mykonos so I can't tell you what it is like. However, have heard the same as you- big party island. I can tell you my experience from where we did go.
Santorini is probably the prettiest place I have ever been and we had an amazing amazing time there. Most of the hotels are built into the cliff side and have beautiful sea views of the volcano island. It was a wonderful site to wake up to and also made for some unbelievable sunsets. However, you probably don't need more than 3-4 days there as it's really just about the view.
Crete provided much more to do and a really authentic greek experience. The food in Crete was phenomenal - some of the freshest seafood I've ever had. It also has some absolutely amazing sandy beaches (google 'elafonisi'). Crete is also mountainous and has activities like hiking as well. While we were there, we hiked the Samaria Gorge. It was really cool. We stayed only on the west side of Crete b/c we had limited time but the eastern side of the island is supposed to have ruins of an old palace and some really great beach resorts.

last summer i went to Andros ... my friends family has a house on that island... sooo not a tourist island and it was soooo beautiful! it was like pure paridise just being with the local people and not nasty tourists. i hear that other island is like the crazy island ... dont know if i would wnat to do that on my honeymoon.

Thanks so much girls..this helps a lot. Crete is definitely up there on my places to look into. And I haven't heard of Andros...but will check it out! How long did you stay in Crete? And what hotels did you ladies stay at? Thanks!!!

I would definitely skip Mykonos for the HM. The 'Cancun of Greece' description fits it perfectly! While it was lots and lots of fun for the trip I took with my girlfriends - I cannot imagine spending my HM there - it's too wild and unless you and FH plan to go to the clubs all night and party there's really nothing else to the island.
Santorini was absolutely beautiful and I would say the perfect spot for a honeymoon!

We were in Crete for 6 days, 5 nights (then Santorini for 4 days, 3 nights) (and Athens for 2 days, 1 night)
In Crete - like I said we stayed on the western side of the Island. We stayed in the main town - Chania (also called Xania and Hania) at Casa Delfino. It was a beautiful hotel right by the Venetian Harbor. Staff was really helpful. I would definitely recommend.
In Santorini - we stayed in the town Firastofani at Dana Villas.
