Looking for some advice from anyone who is familiar with the Orthodox ceremony for their own wedding or if they've attended one...
My FI is Greek Orthodox and British. We've only ever been to Orthodox weddings in England. We are having our wedding/reception here in NYC - but want to incorporate the Orthodox ceremony. Here's my issue... from what I am finding - Orthodox weddings are not allowed on Saturday!? And if they are, they have to be early in the day. This isn't a problem for his family usually because you get the reception halls all day in England - but that is not the case here. !! :) And I want an evening Saturday wedding.
Is this true? Are weddings only allowed Saturday morning (and rarely at that)- and if so, what do people do???? Have a break between their ceremony and the reception? Our wedding will be in the city, so I don't know what to tell guests to do!? I'm so stuck here.
I'm thinking of having the ceremony at the venue - and then a Greek blessing at the Orthodox Church the next day. But I'd rather it all at once. WHy is this so hard?! haha. Any insight - I'd appreciate!!!

Re: Greek Orthodox Ceremony + reception timing
Hi, Im greek and getting married in a greek church...but I am getting married on a sunday, its a usual thing for greeks to get married on sundays. I can ask around for you for saturdays but I do believe my church does let u have saturday weddings, you just haved to be a memeber of the church. Did you call the church to find out what times they would have it on satruday??

Re: Greek Orthodox Ceremony + reception timing
Yeah - we called a place in the city and they prefer Sundays like you said but Saturday is allowed if in the morning. I am just confused as to what to do for 6 hours between the two events! Plus I could imagine I'd need hair and makeup again. Sighhhh. Thanks for the feedback tho! :)
