Greek orthodox pre cana

Original post by zoe282

Any greek brides, or girls marrying a greek guy I need some information. I just set up a time for my first pre cana class with the priest. It's different then catholic pre cana in that we only need to meet 3 times about an hour each. But i was curious what is discussed at these meetings? Anyone know?

So I met with Father Luke last night and he did mention a pre cana but it isn't like the catholic one. We do meet 3x. Our first being last night, then he emailed us a test we have to take, then we will schedule another meeting were we just talk about why we are getting married, what we love about each other I guess more just trying to get to know us and our relationship on a personal level. He was so sweet to meet with.

I was just looking up the thread to ask you how it went. Glad to hear it went so well! BTW, did they contact you or did you just call Fr. Luke and set up an appointment. Every time I call they tell me that we will get a packet in the mail and that is when we call to set up the appointment. I just feel like we should be going in already!

Yes, well he said that my bridal party can sit, he will reserve the side pews along the wall up front for them but myself and Joe have to stand as well as the best man and the MOH so that is ok with me at least the other 7 can sit. He also said that even though the best man wasn't greek he could still carry the ribbon on the stefano around the table which i didn't know was allowed i thought he had to be greek to do that. He also said that the catholic priest at the end can do teh vows if we want them and then Father Luke will pronounce us husband and wife...i am trying to think of what else he mentioned. I had a list of questions with me!

OOH, he said the catholic priest can do the vows?!?! I'm so excited about that because I thought they could only say a quick prayer. That's a good idea about the list of questions, I'll have to bring that with me as well when we go!

I met with Fr. John at St. Pauls--also very nice and young--so that made us more comfortable---I was told the same thing about getting a packet first before setting it up--but I am sure if you call and ask to speak to the priest directly, they can do it earlier---as you can tell I did mine months ago and they had no problem with it. As far as the sitting--we were told the the best man could sit, he had back surgery and can not satnd for that long--thankfully the rest of the party can sit, since one BM is going to prob give birth at my wedding

Thanks for the info, I think I will give them a call so that we can set up an appointment soon.
