Do you guys think I should be annoyed if FH wants to have a top hat and cane for the reception? He says that I am over reacting.

Ooh....if he wears a furry top hat he could be a pimpin' groom! Sorry, I am feeling a bit silly.
I think I would be OK with it if he wore it for a little while, like maybe for the grand entrance and a little bit afterwards...but for the whole time, I would have to say no.

My head says to tell you, no of course you shouldn't be annoyed-- it's his day too... let him do what he wants to do... whatever makes him happy.
My heart says that if my FH wanted to do the same thing, I would kill him.
I don't think it's wrong for you to be annoyed if you really don't like the way it looks. Maybe you can strike up a deal with him, like he can wear it for some of the pictures, not all of them. And don't worry-- with all the dancing and stuff, halfway through the reception he'll probably get hot and want to take off the hat and be uncomfortable with the cane.

i'm sorry, i teach h.s and i'm constantly talking to my seniors that want to do that to their prom dates, and i'll tell you the same question i pose their dates:
'if he's supposed to be the pimp with his pimp cane and hat, what are u supposed to be?'
it's usually then the couple sees the image, and opt not to.
but again, that's JMHO!
I totally understand the 'it's his day too' philosophy, but i would be upset, and this coming from a bride who's FH will be wearing a cutaway with ascot he could totally pull off the look if he wanted but I wouldn't have it and he knows not to ask.

I wouldnt be annoyed at all and just think about it, how long is he really going to hold a cane or even wear a hat. Let him get it to make him happy, but Im sure it wouldnt last long. It would be cute in some photos.

When we went to the tux shop to pick ours out DH and I were joking about this and the owner said those tuxedos are really for proms and not meant for weddings.

LOL!! My FH and 'boys' went for their tuxes last Friday. I was a little nervous about what they would pick out but trust them.
FH comes home and tells me he ordered top hats and canes! I laughed and said what a great idea!! He was like 'You LIKE that idea?!' I said 'yea why not? for a little while, pics and all'. He's like 'I thought yo'ud hate it so i didnt do it!'
he's always trying to rile me up about something!!
but i think it'd be cute, but definitely not for the entire reception/ceremony

I think its cute. Its his day too. I went to a wedding where the groom and his groomsmen all wore a top hat and cane. It was sooo cute.
