Groom v. Bride: Crescent Beach Club v. Bourne Mansion
Hello All! This is my first post, so I hope I'm posting correctly.
My fiance and I love each other very much but have VERY different tastes. He loves modern and laid-back, and I love historic and romantic. Not surprisingly, we each like a different place for the wedding.
We would love your input on wedding venue: Crescent Beach Club or Bourne Mansion (Lessing's)?
[Assume price is not a factor]

Maybe you should keep looking and find something with a foot in each of those camps? I haven't been there but the Somerly at Fox Hollow kind of has both of those elements (at least from the pics).

I am booked at another Lessing's hall & from their reputation & their food, as well as the historic feel & the romantic sides to it! But I also don't know too much about Crescent Beach Club. Google pictures & see which you like better! Good luck in choosing & happy planning!!

I looked at pictures of Somerly at Fox Hollow. It looks perfect, but we are pretty set on a one-wedding at a time venue. We also have 200 guests! We visited both Crescent and Bourne in person. Both are lovely, but really do speak to each of our respective tastes. I think my fiance's major hesitation is that he feels like Bourne is a black-tie type of place, and he was hoping to wear a laid back/casual jacket and pants, no tie, etc. I'm fine with that. Is there a way to dress down at a place like Bourne?

I have never been to the Bourne so I don't know about changing it up. They both just seem so different. I was thinking Chateau Briand, but I think they do two at a time (staggered). There has to be a place that gives you both what you want.

I'm a Lessings girl (smithtown landing) so, my vote goes to Bourne.
maybe you would consider a day-time wedding to achieve the less casual style? really though, I think you could find something that fits both your styles. Have you seen The Thatched Cottage?

IMO I'd go with Crescent Beach Club. This is only because I had a bad experience on the outside of Bourne Mansion. The FI and I had gone to check it out twice because we were really considering having our reception there. The second time we went, we walked the large grass grounds in the back because it looks so beautiful, well there were tons of geese droppings and felt like we were walking through landmines. We shrugged it off b/c we want to have a church ceremony and thought it was no big deal. He loves water so wanted to go all the way to the end of the property where there's water. We DID NOT walk through high grass because there was a path through the tall grass already made by some people. I saw some debris on the beach and a white plastic bag with a tick on it. Warning signals went up and I said to him we should go. But when we walked back I had sand in my shoe. So we stopped. I was holding on to his arm so I could balance myself and tap the sand out, when I was horrified to see a tick crawling up his jeans. I tried slapping it off with my shoe but the thing wouldn't come off. I got my credit card and flicked it off of him only to find at least 7 more crawling up his pants one almost up to his butt. Then he checked me and I had 3 crawling on my jeans. The walk back through the lawn after that experience made the geese droppings 10x worse. When we got back to the car we almost went naked in the parking lot checking for ticks. If it wasnt for the security guards that just came around we probably would have. I never left a venue feeling so dirty and crawly in all my life. After that even though we liked the way it looked, we crossed out Bourne Mansion from our list completely.

I say keeping looking for something you both can come to an agreement with. Don't settle...at the end of the day our wedding day is something us girls have dreamed about since we were little girls. Check out the Woodlands in Woodbury if you like that historical romantic feel. They host one reception at a time. I chose to have my wedding their for that reason. Good luck!

Go back and look at them both again...you can't always absorb everything in just one visit. Maybe you will see things you really love or things you didn't notice before that you don't like and hopefully that can help you with your final choice.

Im getting married at Bourne. I loved the history and glamour it had. With that being said, I feel you can't really 'dress it down'. I was there Sunday and the wedding was very rustic, with trees, and things. It looked great! But you still have that fancy backdrop to everything and the men were in tuxedos etc. I think it depends on how laid back you want to go.

what pricing did you get for Bourne? They want a 4000 site fee for Friday and 5000 for Saturday. I did the calculations and for a Saturday is will be 36,000 and Friday 25,000 JUST for the venue. Are they negotiable at all?

We visited Bourne last September and had exchanged a few emails afterward with Ben (I believe that was his name) and he def seemed interested in negotiating.
In the end, it was still a little pricey for us, but we joke a bit about the Bourne Mansion being the wedding that never was for us. So GORG!
