Grooms Cake

Grooms Cake

How many of you girls are having a Groom's cake? I was thinking of surprising my man with one (either shaped like an X-Box (cause he loves video games) or maybe shea stadium), but i was thinking about doing it at the RD instead of the reception.

What is a Grooms cake exactly? I keep hearing about it. Just wondering.

I am doing one in the shape of a horse racetrack (my FH loves horse racing!)... I haven't decided whether or not to do it at the wedding or the RD. I'm starting to lean more towards the reception so everyone can see it...

It's mainly a southern tradition. It's a cake, usually chocolate, shaped like something that the groom is interested in (a hobby, etc).

I think it's traditional in the South for the groom's cake to be boxed up for the guests to take when they leave, too.

WOW..the groom's cake is a good idea! I know that it is a southern tradition but I never knew that people in NY had groom's cakes at their weddings.

For those of you who will display it at the reception....would you serve it? When? After the cake cutting?

I was really going to do one, something golf related. I ended up not doing it cuz time and money got crazy at the end. Most people do it at the rehearsal dinner and ours included dessert so I opted out. I don't think it mattered one way or the other.

Yes, maybe but I want the cake as a parting gift in favor boxes for the guests as they depart...thinking a caribbean fruit cake or rum cake

I'm having one of Yankee Stadium made for my FH. (Thanks ACE2445!!!) I think it's a great idea to surprise him at the RD, but I'd rather show it off to everyone at the reception. If I'm going to pay all that money for it, I want my photographer to get some shots of it. Especially the look on his face when I surprise him with it!!!
