that is what i thought at first but now i just think it is a nice gesture
i think i am having one the night before when we have a get together (kind of like a rehearsal dinner but we have nothing to rehearse)
the groom gets left out so what is $100-200 on him my FH loves the gym so i think i am going to have a cake made of like a body builder or something
if anyone has a picture please post it... thanks

Re: Grooms Cake
I think this is a personal preference. I had not heard of it before but now that I know about it, I'm going to do it. It seems that nothing is for the groom so this little something might make him feel included. I'm doing my at the RD, not the wedding.
If you don't do it, that's obviously fine, but it should be just as fine for those who decide to do it.

Re: Grooms Cake
In some cultures it is a traditional cake that is cut at the reception and given to the guests to take home - it was usually some kind of fruit or specialty cake. A lot of girls use it as a gift to their FH (cause they get left out of most the planning). I am surprising my FH with one at the RD - im having the it made in the shape of an X-box video game and controller. I dont think it is a waste of money cause I know FH will think it is totally cool and it will make him feel special

Re: Grooms Cake
At the RD I could do then I think its cute.....The only cake on the day of the wedding should be your wedding cake. That is both your cakes, he doesn't get to have an extra one...good heavens how much cake is he gonna eat

Re: Grooms Cake
Jennifer, trust me i agree it is a waste of money just as many other things are ummmm flowers for a 20 minute ceremony but everyone posted about it and thought it was a cute idea so i thought we would probably get a cake anyway that night why not make it for him
i think LIweddings is making things more expensive for me now that i think of it
don't know if i am definately doing it just thought it was nnice no big deal just thought he would like it and appreciate it
we normally do little things like that for each other

Re: Grooms Cake
Jill.. maybe it was poor wording...i do think it is a waste of money but i didn't mean to imply that it is a waste of everyones money..I do think it is a cute idea.. And i really like doing it at the rehersal dinner...I guess the reason why i thought it was a waste is because people eat soooo much that they barely have enough room for the wedding cake and now to have 2 cakes...well that to me is wasting money on something that will probably not be ate

Re: Grooms Cake
Having a Groom's Cake is a Southern tradition. My husband is Texan and insisted that he got one.

Re: Grooms Cake
I've had full intentions of having a groom cake from the begining. I figure that it's a really nice thing to do for FH since it will be themed off a hobby, and we have to serve dessert at the RD anyway. It will be pricier than a regular cake, but I think it's worth the added expense. I'm sure if we asked our FH if they thought we've 'wasted' money, they could probably come up with a million things! lol!

Re: Grooms Cake
I like the look and symbolism of one wedding cake, two cakes look a little weird to me, but for tradition, I guess I understand why its done. I'm not doing it at my wedding.
