As a surprise I wanted to get FH a Grooms Cake in the shape of a Yankee Symbol. He has been a die hard Yankee fan since he was able to pick up a bat. Anyone who grew up in Queens during the 80's knows that it was hard to be a loyal Yankee fan as the Mets were dominating and the Yankees just plain ol' $ucked. I feel like he is owed this simply out of loyalty. Heck I would invite Jeter if he would accept!!
As I degress...I should get to the point. When is it appropriate to present and serve the grooms cake? RH dinner or the actuall reception? I would prefer the reception but what would be the appropriate time. Any feedback is appreciated.
TIA

Re: Grooms Cake
I've never actually been involved in a wedding that HAD a groom's cake. I've only heard of a few people talking about doing it for rehearsal dinner. Not sure how it would work with the reception but ITS YOUR DAY....do it whenever you want (as long as you work it out with your hall)
sorry that's not much help.

Re: Grooms Cake
Hey Brit...I've noticed in NY a lot of people do it at the rehearsal. I have, however, also seen it at the weddings as well. We are doing the interlocking NY as well for the yankees for Peter..and we are going to have it at the wedding...right next to my cake....with the champagne glasses in between the two...It will look great...and its like a combination of us both with the two cakes.

Nina..it's like you are living inside my head!!! That is the exact vision I have for this. Maybe I'm being a little show off but hey why not display it in front of 200 people instread of 25-30 at the RD??? It's a huge Yankee crowd too. Let's get the biggest bang for our buck, right! As always I knew you'd come thru mama

Re: Grooms Cake
Yes mam...actually brit...over here(because we are kind of old school and have a ton of texans..there fore we ahve lots of souther traditions) you rarely will find a wedding without a grooms cake. I'm going to see if I can find you a pic of one....but you can set it up nicely.
When I first told russo's they kind of looked at me weird,,,,,they actually made me go through Frank Russo over this whole thing. So...I explained to him how we do it back home. They are next to each other...usually surrounded by some flowers....and your flutes in the middle...and let me tell you the beautiful pics.
And you'd be surprised....people will be taking pics of it....People will love it because they are different...next thing you know...You have started a thread
But I agree...let everyone see...Pete also is a die hard yankees fan that lived in queens during that time. This means a lot to him...so the two cakes are a symbol of us.
Heck...even one of our ice sculptures is gonna be an NY symbol.....its great..its different...and people love it!!!

It really is a southern tradition. The fist time I saw a grooms cake was in the movie 'Steel Magnolias' and I thought it was really cool. Our big fat Italian families won't get it but since it will be a slice of eye candy and the Yankees they'll LOVE IT. Most importantly Mike will love it! Thanks bella!

Of course the bleading armadillo...the best is when Weezer (Shirley McClain) cuts Tom Skerrit the a$$ piece and he takes it, smiles and say 'Their aint nothing better than a good piece of a$$'
Anything representing Bel' Italia and the Yankees at our weddings will be a TREMENDOUS hit out of the park...no pun intended

Re: Grooms Cake
FH loves to play poker. I saw this really cool looking cake in modern bride mag. that has to do with poker. Im thinking of having something like that done for him. I'll probably do it at the wedding, i mean if im going to spend a good amount of money on it, i want people to see it! Plus, it brings another element of him into the wedding!

If you want to have it in your hall Shannon, just ask your bm..I'm not sure if you want it there or not, but just a suggestion. Russo's does not allow outside food as well, so their bakery will be making the groom's cake as well. HTH

Re: Grooms Cake
My girlfriend had a grooms cake at her wedding in Mississippi. It was a chocolate cake with their monogram in nautical flags and a sailboat on top. The groom is very much into boating. If I find a picture of it I'll post it later on.
