Re: grooms cake?
THey usually place it next to the wedding cake...but the whole thing about the groomscake, is that traditionally you give a piece of the groomscake for the single ladies to take home with them...The reason why is they say if you put a piece of groomscake under your pillow you will dream of your future husband
So its not meant to eat then, although you can have a piece if you want but its for some guests to take home

Re: grooms cake?
Some people opt to do it at the rehearsal dinner, some do it at the reception with the wedding cake. I personally would rather do it at the rehearsal dinner...more personal.

This is the old old southern tradition. Its usually not done this way anymore and instead is made of a flavor and deisgn of the groom's liking. Normally, it is either served at the RD or the reception and it IS eaten. A lot of times it's there for either the BP or anyyone who doesn't like the flavor of the wedding cake.
We're having ours at the wedding, but it really wont be offerd to most guests -- we'll only be offering it to the BP and parents and grandparents (since it only feeds 30).

Wow, I feel like I got a cake history lesson I love it! This is all so interesting.
I had wanted to research old traditions of different cultures to see if we could do fun stuff & to be honest - I forgot about the grooms cake altogether. What are you guys opting to make yours look like?

I know thats why i said traditionally that is whats done.
People do either the RD or wedding now...I am doing it at the wedding and doing a yankee's cake for him...I am also not gonna give it for them to take home, it will be red velvet so it will be offered to whoever wants it.

lol you box it up for them to take home, you dont just hand them the slice. and the under the pillow thing you put in something too not the cake directly under the pillow

Re: grooms cake?
We're doing two grooms cakes. One at the RD as a dessert that will be a cool Knicks design. And a black cake at the reception for all FH's Jamaican relatives. We are providing cake boxes per tradition - my mom is from north carolina.

Re: grooms cake?
This thread is making me hungry!
Now-a-days the majority of groom's cake are served at RD's, but you can have it whenever you want because it's your wedding.
I will be surprising FH with his groom's cake at our RD- I don't even know if he's ever heard of a groom's cake
