Is anyone doing a grooms cake? When do you usually have the grooms cake the reception or rehearsal dinner?

I'm doing it at the RD, and i want it to be a surprise, probably a Yankees cake! I don't want to do it at the reception b/c we'll already have our wedding cake plus Veinnese hour...it would be overkill i think!
Where i get it from will depend on the RD location. If they provide a cake, i will have them do it. If i have to bring it in from the outside, i'll probably use Dortoni's!

You brought up a great point. There will be tons of dessert because of my VH. I've decided to go for the RD. Thanks for you responses ladies!

im goin to do a grooms cake at the rehearsal dinner! im not sure what im goin to do yet, either something to do w/ beer (FH's favorite) ha or something do do w/ trucks and stuff

Honestly, before LIW I have never heard of a groom's cake. But I like the idea. If I do have one it won't be at the wedding. Maybe the RD or I'll think of a special day to present it to FH.

My FH is so picky about flavors and I bet he'd hate whatever I picked out, although it would be a nice gesture.
I would like to make a stadium (GIANTS) cake but most likely I won't do one.
It is done at the RD traditionally

i am not doing a vienesse hour so i was looking into a grooms cake...i wanted it to look like a pic of we have of our dog wearing his soccer jersey.

i just got a quote that starting price is $1000 for 40 people but the price goes up from there depending on complexity...thats alot more then i was expecting so maybe no grooms cake after all.

I would like to get one, but I'm not sure when to have it. Since FH is a Red Sox fan I want to get a cake that looks like Fenway park. Since I am a Yankees fan, I want the scoreboard to show that the Yankees won. I have to get a little dig in.
