so i want to surprise my FH and get him a grooms cake. I have no idea how big it should be, as in how many it should feed. also, i need a bakery that can do a very detailed cake, think ace of cakes, only i refuse to spend 125 an hour to get it transported from baltimore.

Re: grooms cake/bakery suggestion
definitely audreys bakery in sayville. thoma spaoli is the owner and he is such an artist. i gave him a picture of a cake that i wanted and he replicated it to the T! here is a pic! the first on eis the pic i gave him and the second is mine.
I love Dortoni's in Levitown and like a previous poster said Audrey's in Sayville. But since you are getting married in 2010, a new and amazing bakery (Food Network Challenge winner) may emerge. I'd wait until you are at least a year out before planning a grooms cake. JMHO.
Our wedding cake was from Dortoni's, and it was DISGUSTING. Maybe we caught them on an off day, but really, our cake was ugly and gross gross gross. I'm a manhattan girl so I can't recommend a bakery on Long Island, but Two Little Red Hens CLICK makes beautiful AND delicious stuff. Also try Venieros - best bakery in NYC. CLICK
