Grooms Parents?

Grooms Parents?

Are any of the groom's parents contributing to the wedding? And if so, how?

FH's parents have offered to chip in, but not sure how to go about it...

Nope, not a cent. Not even an offer to help with anything that doesn't require money. They haven't even called my parents in the two years we've been engaged to invite them over. Can you tell I'm a little bitter???

Re: Grooms Parents?

My FFIL is a kitchen contractor. He helped us redo our original 1957 kitchen. Honestly, the pipes were crumbling. He bought our cabinets and other materials that is our wedding gift. It's approx. $10,000 which I think is very generous. We paid for labor which was almost as much. My FSIL was getting her kitchen redone one month before so we took her appliances.

In my family parents give gifts of what they can afford towards the wedding of their children rather than saying 'OK, we'll pay for the wedding'. I think when you are given a set amount of money you watch your costs more and have to weigh your decisions more carefully.

It would be nice if both sides could offer their children what they could.

his mom is paying for the RD.

his dad has offered to help with something, but we didn't know what to ask for. And now he's in the hospital (as of this past weekend) and is not doing so well. I just hope he recovers and can make it to the wedding

My FIL's said they would help, but that was over a month ago and I've seen them many times since and they've never brought up the conversation I HATE asking for money. My dad offered up a huge chunk and FH so far is covering additional expenses as I have nothing to contribute myself But I feel by doing things myself and making many of the projects, that I'm contributing to NOT having to spend that much more money

Re: Grooms Parents?

MY FIL's have offered to chip in (and probably would have even paid if we wanted) a while ago. My FH and I sat down and discussed it and thought the best way would be to have each parent contributes half of the big things. Photographer, band, videographer, hall, florist, and officiant (I think that is all the biggies). That is plenty at this point. Then FH and I are picking up the invites, little things, etc. My parents paid for my dress and his parents are paying for the Rehearsal dinner.

We thought the divvying up of the large charges would be best. Just not to have to bother asking for more money each time we booked a new this, or got a new that. The last few month type of things. We are picking up the after party and bus also just because we felt that was something we wanted to do for our guests staying over and didn't want to include that.

So my parents put most of the money down. I wrote out an itemized list of what the costs were, etc and Rich gave it to his parents. They are going to make a check out to my dad. It was the easiest way.

We're not even lucky enough to have them offer to help us with that.

I was just telling neesiepie, his parents are basically just like any other guest at the wedding.... It's so aggrevating.

FIL's are paying for the rehearsal dinner. They are also giving us $ towards the wedding, not sure how much. FH doesn't want to take any money from them because he says 'its not their job' to pay for the wedding.

FH's parent's are not $ well off at all so to even have them pay for the RD is so sweet. they really are amazing people.

FIL's are paying for the RD, and FH's tux.

FFIL said he had 'some money' saved. He offered it to my father as $$ towards the wedding or as $$ towards our future. My Dad said 'give it to the kids' so we are going to get a nice wedding gift from them!

They are amazing - they would have paid for the whole wedding if we asked them.
