One of my best friends of over 6 years has decided to drop out of our bridal party. I'm really hurt because we were so close at one point. I have such a feeling it has to do with his clingy obsessive girlfriend... I have been best friends with him while he had so many different girlfriends and our friendship remained the same, yet now he's been seeing this girl who I've actually been friends with since childhood and they've been together for over 2 years now, and he has completely changed. She's crazy jealous and I know she has something to do with this because I know how her mind is - she's probably bothered by the fact that he'd be in the bridal party and he'd be walking with another girl down the aisle and blah blah blah.
I just can't believe our friendship has come to this... He said he just felt uncomfortable because he's never been to a wedding or in a bridal party so he doesn't know what it consists of. That isn't even an excuse, but I wasn't about to argue and I just said that it's ok and I'll be happy as long as he's there. He said if we can't find someone to fill in his spot, he'd still be in our BP but we're just going to have an uneven BP now. We don't want anyone else..
Has anyone else experienced something like this? I know friends come and go, but I just never thought our friendship would turn into something like this..
Wow I'm really sorry to hear this. Unfortunately weddings can bring out the best and the worst in people. Sounds like he's showing his true colors

Wow. I'm really sorry to hear that. I hate when people act differently in front of or because of their SO. That was a pretty lame excuse though.

Re: Groomsman dropped out...
im so sorry to hear that. my hs best friend was a guy who started dating one of our other friends. she was always jealous of our close friendship, and eventually me and the guy drifted apart. we still keep in touch but he's moved to FL and has a family (not with that girl BTW).
If he's your best friend, you guys should have a heart to heart about how your relationship's changed since he started dating this girl. I have no idea if you guys are close like that, but me and my friend were able to talk about it. even if we couldnt really change the situation, it felt good to get it out in the open.

I am sorry. I agree with Stacey... weddings bring out the truth in many many people. I have seen this happen time and time again. His girlfriend sounds like an immature, petty b!tch.

Yeah..unfortunately I'm seeing his true colors I guess. I just never knew they even existed... It s*cks to be completely blindsided by someone you thought you knew so well.
Every time we've ever had a problem, we could talk it through, but ever since he's been with this girl, I hardly hear from him. We make plans and he breaks them. I call him and text him, and it takes him weeks to respond. He spends every moment with her, which leaves no time for me..
There's nothing I can do though except be thankful that he didn't pull this stunt a few days or weeks before the wedding...
Thank you for all your responses. I really appreciate it.

I am so sorry to hear that!
Think of it this way, it is an honor to be in a bridal party, you aren't doing him a FAVOR. So if he doesn't want to be in it, thats his loss.......

ughh sorry you are going through that. you said you've been friends with his girlfriend since childhood, right??? maybe you could talk to her. tell her how she's being, and tell her how she is, basically ruining everything!!
i hope he comes to his senses.

Re: Groomsman dropped out...
Thanks girls... You're all right - it's his loss.
I'm not close to his girlfriend like I was many years ago, so I really can't talk to her about it and although I wish I could talk to him about it, I've decided not to. I shouldn't have to try to convince one of my best friends to be in my bridal party...

what kinda bs is that??? if my FH, bf whatever ever told me I couldn't walk down the aisle at my BFF wedding, I would knock them out and then email them pics from the wedding of me and the GM dancing togehter....shes more of a idiot for staying with someone who tells her what she can and cant do.....
