One of my best friends of over 6 years has decided to drop out of our bridal party. I'm really hurt because we were so close at one point. I have such a feeling it has to do with his clingy obsessive girlfriend... I have been best friends with him while he had so many different girlfriends and our friendship remained the same, yet now he's been seeing this girl who I've actually been friends with since childhood and they've been together for over 2 years now, and he has completely changed. She's crazy jealous and I know she has something to do with this because I know how her mind is - she's probably bothered by the fact that he'd be in the bridal party and he'd be walking with another girl down the aisle and blah blah blah.
I just can't believe our friendship has come to this... He said he just felt uncomfortable because he's never been to a wedding or in a bridal party so he doesn't know what it consists of. That isn't even an excuse, but I wasn't about to argue and I just said that it's ok and I'll be happy as long as he's there. He said if we can't find someone to fill in his spot, he'd still be in our BP but we're just going to have an uneven BP now. We don't want anyone else..
Has anyone else experienced something like this? I know friends come and go, but I just never thought our friendship would turn into something like this..

Re: Groomsman dropped out...
I'm sorry to hear this.
I completely understand what you are going through. I had a guy friend I always hung out with. Went to the same college, skipped class together just to hang out, always went to concerts together. But every single time he got involved with some girl, our friendship was always put 'on hold' because the girl was always jealous of our friendship (like I might secretly have feelings for him or vice versa). Funny thing was, I always had a serious BF during all his relationships and his GF's knew it. What's the jealousy for? It's just really annoying to deal with. Unfortunately, our friendship eventually faded because of it.
All I can say is, try not to lose the friendship over it. It's better to talk it over with him and let him know how it makes you feel when he's different around you because of his GF.

Thanks for your advice. It's funny because our friendship sounds EXTREMELY similar to the friendship you described. One of his ex's actually got angry that we hugged each other hello when we ran into each other at Best Buy and when they fought about it later in the day, he told her to stop being ridiculous. Not to mention my boyfriend of 2 years was with me when I ran into him and he didn't care that we hugged. It's just that all of the girls my friend has ever seen have been extremely jealous and clingy. I don't know why he goes after the same type of girls every time and then complains about how clingy they are.

I'm sorry your friend is acting this way. I wish he would just be truthful as to his real reason why he won't be in your bridal party instead of just saying its because he doesn't know what it involves. I could see if it was because of the money, but this is obviously bc of the GF.
