Groomsmen Question

I know that this might be a silly question, but is there a difference between groomsmen and ushers? My fiance and I have been having heated discussions about this. Here`s a little background: He is from Texas and I am from LI. We are having a Long Island wedding. He is not having as many GM as my BM`s and he thought that he might ask 2 of my cousins that we are close to to do the ushering - since his friends from TX will know almost no one at the wedding. I didn`t think that there was a difference between the two. But he says that he would feel funny asking them to be GM`s because they are not people that he has been close to - but he would be OK asking them to be ushers. I am not sure if this is a regional thing either, but I would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks

Groomsmen Question

I'm from the south and this is the difference: An usher helps seat your guests and a groomsman actually stands up with your groom at the altar. I realize in most Catholic weddings up here only the best man stands up at the altar but down south in most weddings all the groomsmen and all the bridesmaids also stand up at the altar. Also there is no communion and everyone in the bridal party stands during the entire ceremony (I know the Catholic ceremonies you sit down.) Hope this help, believe me we have had some talks about the differences in the ceremonies.

Groomsmen Question

We have 4 GM and 2 Ushers. The ushers will assist with seating and program and guestbook and the Gm will stand next to the groom at the alter. Happy planning
