OK....so FH and I sat down last night and figured out what invites we wanted, and what our wordings/fonts would be etc... so today i am talking to my mother and telling her all that we picked...I said for the invite we are planning on putting
(Brides Parents) and (Grooms Parents) invite you to share in the joy of the marriage uniting their children (Bride) and (Groom) This celebration of love will be on (Date) (Year) etc etc etc....
My mom is now very mad/upset/hurt (I dont know what)...b/c we are putting FH's parents names. I explained to her this was an invitation for our marriage..and we felt it was important to have both their names...well, she thinks b/c they are not going 50/50 on the wedding (which my parents never expected...but Fh's parents are paying for the band, the flowers and the rehersal dinner)..i feel #1. we like the wording including both set which mean to much to us #2. Fh;s parents while not paying for 1/2...are still helping with a significant amount of money.
My questi0on is what should we do...should we re-word to not offend my mother...or hope that she eventually can see where we are coming from????

Re: GRRR!!!!! Need advice on invite wording
I do not think you should reword the invitation because your mother is upset. No offense but I think your mother is being a bit selfish it is not like your FH parents is not paying for anything. Even if they were not I think out of respect for them you should include them on it.

Re: GRRR!!!!! Need advice on invite wording
That's a sticky situation...
I wouldn't re-word it. You are beginning YOUR life together.
I am definitely including both parents on the invite... And I am pretty positive that his parent won't have the money to even pay for the band and all the stuff that your FH parent's are paying for. The only difference is my mother doesn't mind... That's hard...
Good luck with your decision... Its a hard one.

Re: GRRR!!!!! Need advice on invite wording
I think you should leave it the way it is. They are pitching in a good chunck of money, even if it isn't half. You have to put them on, it's the right thing to do.

Re: GRRR!!!!! Need advice on invite wording
IMO, you should leave it the way it is.
1. it's YOUR wedding and you like it 2. FH's parents are contributing quite a bit

Re: GRRR!!!!! Need advice on invite wording
I would leave it.
Fh's parents contributed a lot - Your FH!
But seriously, they are contributing and it doens't have to be 50/50.
The only thing I can see is that the people on the invties are the 'hosts' and maybe your parents want to fill that role.
But anyway I'd leave it as is. it seems that you want them both. Your mom will get overit
ETA: Maybe you can do it like this
Brides parents request the honour of your presence at the amrrige of their daughter
Bride
and
Groom
Son of Groom's Parents...
That way his folks are on the invite, but your parents are the 'hosts'

Re: GRRR!!!!! Need advice on invite wording
i would leave it like that... no offense, but like somebody else said, i think your mom is being a little bit selfish.... the invitation shouldn't be about whos giving more money- it should be about two families inviting people to share in the marriage of their children.... this is why it ***** that weddings cost so much... people get caught up in whos paying for what, and where the money is coming from that they forget about the real reason for the day... its not like FHs parents aren't paying for anything... and its YOUR wedding- if you like that wording, then use it you're mom will get over it

Re: GRRR!!!!! Need advice on invite wording
I'm totally appreciate what everyone saying about this being YOUR wedding, but I just want to stand up for your mom. I don't think that she is being selfish. I think she's just upset because it is a big day for her, too.
We did not include FHs parents names on the invite for our wedding because they weren't paying for anything, my parents were. And being the 'hosts' of the day was a big deal to them.
We sent out very nice rehearsal dinner invitations which clearly stated that the dinner was being hosted by FHs parents.
I think that the 'son of' wording is very nice.

I don't think you should change it at all. It's not as if your FH's parents aren't paying for anything - they are so there's no reason why they can't be on the invite. I would leave it.

Re: GRRR!!!!! Need advice on invite wording
I would leave it as is. Is your mom paying for everything else?? Even if she is, your FH's parents ARE contributing, she can't deny that...which means she is not paying for 100% of the wedding.
Either way, you have to do what YOU feel is right (I know everyone else has said it but it's because it's the truth). She will get over it.
Another option is:
Together with their parents [Bride] and [Groom] Invite you to blah blah...
I doubt she'd prefer that option but you could present it to her and see.
I also think that Marymoon's suggestion is a good compromise...although that might turn around and offend your FILs because it kind of makes a POINT of stating that they aren't paying for the wedding when in fact, they are contributing a significant amount.

Re: GRRR!!!!! Need advice on invite wording
I might do.. (b/c my parents feel the same way) but the one big difference is my FH's parentsd aren't doing anything for us!!!
an invitation we are thinking of doing...
Bride's parents request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter (bride)
to
(groom) son of Mr and Mrs.... On Date and time

Re: GRRR!!!!! Need advice on invite wording
Honestly
These days, I think it is very rude to not include both parents ....paying or not...they both gave birth and raised you.
Only time I can see not doing that is if one set of parents is estranged
both deserve to be on the invite or you can do what we did and put neither and only used 'together with our families'
