...My invitation is VERY light. But just to be safe, I took my sample invitation to the post office to be weighed. They assured me that the .41 cent stamp was plenty and that I would be good. So I stuffed all 150 of them and put one .41 cent stamp on each invitation... We decided just to be safe-we wanted to hand them to an actual postal worker to mail them and not just throw them all in a regular mail box. We carry all of the invitations in to the post office(4 boxes) and wait on the line for 25 minutes. When we get to the counter- the woman started lecturing us on how our invitations were too heavy and that if we try to send them out with only one .41 cent stamp, they will be returned in the mail. WHY DID YOUR POST OFFICE TELL ME THAT IT WAS ENOUGH POSTAGE????!!!!
I would have ordered the .58 cent stamp to begin with. So then she tells me she can use her black ink pad stamp for the price difference???? I was so mad. I just spent all this time making the invitations look pretty and now you want to ink the whole front of it up??? I ended up driving to another P.O to get 150 more of the same stamp (which makes each invite now .82 cents) because they didnt have anything that looked somewhat decent in the .17 cents we needed.
I know it sounds stupid but I didnt want to have a purple heart on the front with a bell? I don't care if the stamps werent pretty but I didnt want two different ones on each one.
Ok vent over... sorry for sounding stupid and upset over nothing.

Re: GRRR!!! Stamp Issues
i ordered the .41 cent stamps also for my invitations the stamp with the heart and purple background. i want it to be purple b/c everything in my wedding is purple. so i told my mom to put two .41 stamps on each envelope just to be on the safe side. my FH told me that i should have gotten the .58 cent stamps but i don't want pink so i'm just going to put two stamps on each envelope.

Sorry that happened to you. It really would burn me up too, after having them checked in the first place. I'm sure people won't notice the stamps they will be more interested about what's inside

Oh no!!! FH and I went yesterday to have our invite weighed and they told us it weighed exactly one ounce or whatever it is for the 41 cent stamp. So we bought 220 41 cent stamps for the outer and RSVP card. I was so happy that I didnt have to buy the 58 cent stamps, but now Im worried that might happen to me too!
Im sorry!

I've heard this from a lot of other girls on this site! It's not just you, the workers at the post office are incompetent! I plan on taking my invitation to my office and weighing them before I mail them out because I no longer trust the post office. Sorry that happened to you

Re: GRRR!!! Stamp Issues
I'm so sorry. The people at the post office can be rude, esp when they know you are sedning wedding invitations. I had the agent lecture me about wanting to have my invites hand cancelled! Plus, i was pretty annoyed when she tried to make me pay more for the postage, she picked up the invitation and started to flex it and said that it was too hard and needed extra postage or it would get returned. WTH right? I didn't listen to her and purchased the 58 cents stamps and all of mine have gotten through.

That's exactly what we ended up doing- we have two of the purple heart ones on. The funny thing is that our colors are celadon, champage, and pale pink. So I would have been happier getting the .58 cent heart w/ pink background instead of the purple. But we didnt want to get .58 cent stamps if we didnt need them- and meanwhile now we have two .41 cents purple heart stamps on every invite!!!

That's exactly what we did. We put the sample one together and went to the local post office. They said it was exactly .41 cents and we were going to be fine. So I ordered 300 purple heart .41 cent stamps (150 invite/150 rsvp) and then we get there with all 150 done and are told it's not enough postage!!!!

Re: GRRR!!! Stamp Issues
Oh and that it was too thick!!! lol Meanwhile- I asked them that and they assured me it was fine with the .41 cent stamp. My invitation is a sheet of cardstock with a ribbon tied around and I stuffed the stuff inside the ribbon- there isnt even an inside envelope or seperate reception card or anything.... I would have just ordered the .58 heart stamp if they told me. GRR!

Re: GRRR!!! Stamp Issues
Maybe I'm just dumb and don't know ow the post office works...anything that is under 1 oz gets a 41 cent stamp and you can use that 1 stamp to send a letter to anywhere in the continental US (I can't speak for Alaska or Hawaii since I've never sent anything there).
So, when I wanted to send my thank you cards for my engagement party, I took an envelope to the post office to be weighed and the worker askd me where I was sending it to...I explained that it would go to different states, and he said there are different rates for different states.
So I asked him if the envelope weighed more than 1 ounce, he said no, so I said how much would it cost to send it to California, he said 41 cents. And how much to send to the Bronx? he said 41 cents. I then asked him why he said there were different rates for different states, and he asked me if I had any more questions or if I wanted to buy stamps because I was holding up the line (there was all of 1 person behind me)
Obviously, postal workers are incompetent!

I've heard if they are different sizes (not standard) it can also up the price.
I fell in love with these 41c stamps, and even though our invitations are very light (invite is 2 layers of linen paper w/ a very lightweight ribbon, a response card/envelop and direction card... no reception card, no inner envelope, no pocketfold) i'm sure it will end up being 58c.
I'm the opposite of the OP though! I will probably use the 41c stamps I love + a random 17c stamp rather than the pink heart wedding stamps which i personally hate.
i wouldn't mind doing 2 41c stamps but I don't think my invite will weigh enough to need those.
