Grrrr.... work/bathroom vent!

Grrrr.... work/bathroom vent!

My office is tucked away in a corner at the end of a hallway and right next to it is aahhh... my own private bathroom!! Well, not really... but not many people don't know it exists.

Except this group of ladies in the dept ALL THE WAY on the opposite side of the building as me. Now, I'm friendly with them and they are all nice BUT... THIS REALLY IRKS me.

They have TWO bathrooms on their side -- one is a private bathroom literally 30 ft from their desks. And one is a public bathroom with 3 stalls and this one is just as close but in the 'public' area of the building.

So you know what they do?... they walk all the way out of their dept, PAST both THEIR bathrooms, through the public hallways, past the magnetometers, through the mailroom, and down the hall to MY bathroom!!!!

WHY would they do that you ask???? To Sh!t and Smoke. No lie. They come to my bathroom, stink up my entire hallway and then light up a cigarette. SOOOO.... pregnant me (that when I gotta pee, I gotta PEE) just had to walk back all that way to THEIR bathroom because one of them was in there SMOKING!!! Grrrrrr..... not to mention that the smoke sometimes stinks up my office too.

Just had to vent!!! Anyone else have a crappy (no pun intended) bathroom situation at work???

YES! Being in a state building, they had to bring the bathrooms on our floor up to code and make at least one handicap stall with the automatic door entry. SO, they close one of the 2 bathrooms for three months, turning 3 stalls into one, large handicap stall. So now the one stall is open and they close the only other bathroom on the floor to make it handicap accessible as well! So we have one stall on our floor for 250 women!!!!!!!!!!! And it will take 6 months until the new 2 handicap stalls are added!!!!!!!!

I can see walkign far away to use a 'better bathroom'
My brother attedn/worked at St. Johns & at soem poitn discuoverd the Law school had the nicest ( cleanest) bathrooms, so he would frequently stop in their on his way across campus.

And I can see taking a walk, to make your little break a few minutes longer. . .but SMOKING is unacceptable! Isn't it illegal. Can you pass on an annonomous tip to HR or buliding services or something?

ETA- my crappy bathroom situation is that we have 1 bathroom--2 stalls. ( 8 women)
It is SO tiny, if you are in the first stall, it is practically liek peing in the sink!
It doesn't flush so good--you have to hold it down.
The other stall, used to be the better one, but it clogs SO easily, and now that handle is borken too, and you have to fuss with it to get the toilet to stop running. there are 3 signs, b/c apparently soemoen is annoyed by the running toilet.

I agree with tourist on the smoking issue. Not much you can do about the other, but smoking does not need to be tolerated -- especially when you are pregnant!!!!

I wholeheartedly agree with this point more than anything - as a pregnant woman, you should make it a POINT that these people not be allowed to smoke in a bathroom which you use.

As for all the other nasty stuff, there probably isn't a whole lot you can do ... luckily the ladies on my floor are relatively good about being neat and not stanking up the joint But there is always the odd day where its more exruciating to go to the bathroom than it is to hold it

I would definately say something. I would not be having any of that. Why should you suffer tell them to go downstairs when they need to smoke.

I'd put a big NO SMOKING sign on the door! As a big hint at first.
Then if they stil continue to do it, then I'd report it to someone.

My BR situation was a nightmare for the past 4 months. They were renovating ours and we had to walk down 3 flights of stairs to go to a decent bathroom! So we were sharing the BR with 4 floors of women! They were SOOOO gross. Don't even get me started.

Now that our bathroom is back and fixed up.. we keep is VERY clean... and we have a 'spa like' atmosphere in there. We all chipped in and bought a plant, brought in quilted TP and scented softskin soaps, Spray and air fresheners, lotion, tampons and pads... it's really really nice now!
we were talking about brining in one of those zen fountains with the water trickeling... we'll see if they'll allow us!

Can't you call OSHA or the board of health to report the smoking??

Where I work there are three bathrooms in our hallway and they are being renovated. I have to walk a mile to go to the bathroom. I don't understand why they didn't just do two of the bathrooms and leave one in our hallway that would be usable. I hate it

Oh man, that is so nasty! Bad, bad office ettiquite. I would definitely send an anonymous complaint to HR about the smoking though.

My bathroom nightmare....in our office the gym is on the same floor as my department, so 20 sweaty - just-from-aerobics women (who do not work on my floor) who are trying to fit into a small vestibule and 8 stalls to change back into their work clothes....not to mention the 'sink showers' they all try to take before changing AND....the hair dying under the hand-dryer (which is right by the door, so no one can get in or out).

GET OUT OF MY BATHROOM!
had to get that off my chest
