Guest Attire Suggestions, North Fork Tent Wedding

Hi all,
My sister is getting married at a north fork winery this summer and we have so many out of state (southerner) family guests who are asking for dress guidelines/suggestions. Most are not familiar with the area or feel of the north fork. I'm not sure what to tell them! Ceremony will be outdoors, cocktail hour indoor and out, and reception will be beneath a tent. No expense spared, shabby chic approach. Winery is on the water. Groom in a custom suit, bride in a designer but laid back gown. I would love and appreciate any suggestions. Many thanks!

I think you could say that it was formal but not black tie (unless she wants it to be). A friend of mine just got married at Martha Clara and this is what she put on her wedding website under the Attire section:

One of the biggest questions people ususally have when invited to a wedding is 'What should I wear?' Fortunately the bride and groom won't have this issue for once ;)

Though the wedding is taking place at a vineyard, Jill and Corey would like to make it clear that there is nothing casual about this wedding! Granted it is not a black tie affair, they still expect their guests to dress up. Suits and ties are appropriate for the gentlemen, and a formal cocktail dress for the ladies.

Please keep in mind that the wedding is early in May. The ceremony and cocktail hour will be outdoors. If you think you might be chilly, bring a jacket to keep you warm

I would emphasize the 'formal' part. I live in NC and my FH family is from upstate NY, so trust me, no one does a wedding the way Long Island does. Say formal to them, and they will come in a bit more casual than what you consider formal.

I love the words from the above poster!

I like the above wording as well. If people ask, just say formal cocktail attire.. Suits and cocktail dresses.
