She is 6 short of her minimum, but the hall agreed to let her use the meals towards kids and not charge her for the 6 kids.
Yesterday 2 people called to say they are sorry and cannot make it. And she has a feeling another family of 3 may bail out.
What can she do? Obviously it is rude to just ask people who weren't even invited in the first place to come. But at the same time, she has already paid in full for those people.
Any advice on what she can do? Can she ask the place to give her meals to go? Or does she just have to eat the cost and deal with the fact that some people are just rude.

Re: Guest Cancelling After Giving Final Head Count???
She can definitely as for each meal paid for to go and specify which meals she would like. She can also ask people from work who otherwise who would not have been invited, many times they understand. Many she can work out an upgrade somewhere in her day $ equivalent to the meals not consumed.

Re: Guest Cancelling After Giving Final Head Count???
Sorry, but I do not think that the reception hall will give you the meals to go. My RH let me cancel the people if I gave them at least 2 days in advance. But last minute cancellations is often a problem. That is why I gave the RH about 5 people less than I had accounted for.

So, do you think they can get some money back if they let the RH know of the cancellation today?

I had 6 people cancel after I gave my final #. The RH didnt let me cancel those people. I ended up inviting 2 of my sisters friends that I have known forever. The other meals I just lost out on but in the end I didnt let it bother me

Ugh, first of all this is so rude. Anyways... maybe you can invite some of your friends that know your sister... or maybe invite some single people with dates. If she speaks to her RH, some let you take the meals to go or offer some other solution. I know that Floral Terrace has let past brides in this situation get little upgrades in their packages, like adding a martini luge or something.

Re: Guest Cancelling After Giving Final Head Count???
we had 4 people that couldn't come the last minute, for good reasons. although the RH was sorry about it, they couldn't give us money back understandably. They gave DH and i food from the CH, reception and dessert to take home!
it doesn't hurt to ask!!

To play devils advocate, we dont know whats going on in those pepoles life that they had to cancel. It *****, but I will always give them the benefir of the doubt.
See if she can ask friends froom work, or talk to some singles and see if they want to bring a date.
There are people you can ask without insulting them. But I would say see if some singles want to bring dates.

I think as long as its 48hour notice the hall lets you cancel after that your just basically out of luck. But that happens at every wedding there is always no shows.

Re: Guest Cancelling After Giving Final Head Count???
I understand how frustrating it feels. I had 8 people who bail at my reception. I would explain the situation to your venue and see what they can do at this point. Most likely, they're not going to give back a refund. It still doesn't hurt to talk it over. If they won't budge, your other alternatives are to either ask your sister to invite her co-workers/friends/relatives to fill in the gaps. Instead of sending out a last minute invite, make a formal phone call. Let the guests know that she booked her venue that accommodates up to XXX ppl. And there's an extra table that is missing 6 ppl. And the venue won't reimburse her for the extra table. That way it doesn't sound like it's a pity invite. Honestly, if it's left alone, the vendor won't give you a refund. At least inviting a few extra people compensates for the meals.

Re: Guest Cancelling After Giving Final Head Count???
Yeah. my sis basically said she wants to take the extra meals home so she doesn't have to cook for the 2 days until the honeymoon.
But she has already agonized over seating arrangements and doesn't feel like changing them or inviting more ppl.
She feels like she has spent so much on this wedding already that she is not going to get worked up or go crazy over a couple hundred dollars for the people who cancelled. I guess that's a good attitude to have.

Just wait till the wedding day when some people are no shows! It's ridiculous!
Our RH let us take the unused meals to go! It was great!

I think it really depends on where you are getting married.. alot of places do things differently and some are more flexible than others..
I almost had to cancel 2 people about 5 days before the wedding, our friends wife was ready to give birth so they couldn't come... but luckily 2 people who thought they couldn't come, realized they could (out of towners) so it all worked out , but I did speak to my RH and they seemed like they would have let me take those 2 people off -- (keep in mind though, i still hadn't brought them my final payment)
But im sure if she's already PAID for those people, they will give them the meals to go.

My RH said they would give us meals to go - after all, we paid for them! It doesn't hurt to ask. Let you RH know whats going on and they can work with you. They may even throw in something! good luck!

that's crazy rude !!! I'm pretty sure that my friend's hall didn't charge her for the 3 people who didn't come but I guess it depends.

Re: Guest Cancelling After Giving Final Head Count???
This is so weird that this is on here today. I just had this conversation last night and I think I'm going to undercount mine by 4-6 people because of this reason...
Belissa had 3 people on here cancel from MINNESOTA! Like um, did they a-not know she paid already, and b-that they never booked travel to come? ***????? Her grand total now is at 6 4 days before the wedding and thats not counting no shows.
And from what alli posted, CLM doesn't do much to help out with it

That's a great idea actually! Ask for the meals to go! I never thought of that! If it was me, I'd invite some of the ladies on here to the wedding and say ok who wants to go!
