Guest List

Has anyone else had the headache of trimming the quest list? When I do the math of 220 verses 185 I nearly hit the floor! It's tough making a 'B' list! For those of you with invites out or already married what percentage declined? I have heard 20% aren't able to make it. So hard!

Re: Guest List

I forgot the exact #s but I invited about 280 and had about 215 including vendors. Most of the No's were from people invited with a guest that decided to come alone.

Re: Guest List

Be very careful with your list especially inviting couples. When I sent out invitation I invited married couples only. You will have a lot of no shows so be prepared. I started out with a min of 65 and then once I sent out my invites I told my BM to up the min to 120.

Re: Guest List

I was thinking of sending the singles the invitation only addressed to them (no and guest), then if they want to they can fill out the reply card with '2' if they want to bring a date. That way I don't convince them to find someone to bring... and I don't insult someone who is dating. You think this will work?

Re: Guest List

I am really hoping for a 22% decline rate- right in the middle of the 20 to 25% that all the 'wedding authorities' tell you..

Of course, you need to factor in if you have a large family- if they are local or not, etc.

how will they know that bringing someone is an option???

Re: Guest List

I was just gonna let them fill in the reply card with their date's name. Of course for all of my cousins and friends who I know are in a serious relationship I will be addressing the card to both. This is for the friends and relatives I know are single. I feel in a bind with this one...

Im planning on including '& Guest'. I feel if you dont include it people will have no idea its their choice.

Re: Guest List

If I were to receive an invitaton with 'and guest' omitted, I would assume I was not invited with a guest. There is no way I'd ever respond with a guest. The omission of 'and guest' means the person is invited alone.

Anyone who adds a person's name when it's clear they are not invited with a guest (as in the aforementioned manner of addressing an invitation) has a ridiculous amount of nerve.

That said, I'd never dream of inviting an adult without a guest. If the person isn't in a relationship, it's up to him/her to decide if s/he would like to bring a date.

We invited 168...Way over the amount we wanted and ended up with 123....the exact amount we wanted

We invited 200 and our minimum was 175. We just made our minimum with our B List. So figure your amount is good.

Re: Guest List

There is no way that people will know they're allowed to invite a guest if the invite is not addressed to them and a guest. We had a lot of singles invited with guests and a lot of them chose to come by themselves if they did not have a SO.

Re: Guest List

I am not inviting '& guest'. Of the singles I plan to invite, my sister & best friend included, they are invited solo.

If I do not know the person (spouse/fiance/long term significant other) then they are not invited. My wedding will not be a 'meet & greet' for my friends/family to bring a date. I have never met my sister's boyfriend nor my best friend's boyfriend and I do not want to meet either of them at my wedding. This all assumes they are still long distance dating (my best friend) or still feeling each other out (my sister).

My single friends have told me to invite them solo and I'm glad I did not have to raise the issue.
