Here is my dilemma, I can't afford to invite all of my friends with Guests. Our wedding list is already at 275, surpassing our 250 limit. Is it OK to only invite my friends with significant others with a guest??? Is it totally tacky???
Some of my friends are saying its fine, others are making me feel like crap. But we honestly just cant afford to do it.

Re: guest list
there's a thread in bhb that's very similar to this.
i posted there, but i'll repeat here... we had a rule. only those who are engaged or living with someone were invited with their partner. everyone else was invited alone.
if i were a guest and was invited alone, i would not take offense to it. i've had family do it... EVEN WHEN I HAD BEEN ENGAGED... NOW THAT'S HAVING B@LL$!!!!!!

Re: guest list
for our friends who were not seriously dating anyone we did not invite them with a guest... im sorry but i was not about to pay for some of DH's friends to bring their flavor of the week... they all hang out with just the guys anyway, so it wasnt like they would have felt uncomfortable going alone... for those few friends that we had that really didnt know any of our other friends, i did invite them with a guest reguardless of if i knew if they had a significant other or not, because i wanted them to be able to have someone to hang out with if they wanted to since they didnt know anyone else... hope that makes sense...

Re: guest list
Thanks Ladies,
I feel much better about it. I just can't rationalize excluding people that I want there for some of my girlfriends to try to scrape up a date that they won't have fun with anyway!! I really appreciate your feedback!

Re: guest list
I so hear you here....i am on such a budget... my hall is under $60 a person and I cant' even afford to invite some people with guests. i would think that people should understand the cost of weddings these days... and understand that it is not possible for you to invite joe schmo's girl that he picked up at the bar the other night. unless the people are married or engaged, or seriously with someone, then i wouldn't invite with a guest. your friends should understand!!!!! i am inviting some friends with NO guests.... no one seems to have a problem with it... but try to sit people that come alone with someone they know. i have been to too many weddings by myself and i'm stuck at a table where i knew noone....that's the only time it *****/

Re: guest list
I would say that it is completely fine.....if one of your guests have the guts to ask you specifically if they can bring, even though they weren't given the option, then I would say give them the guest option....
We're inviting only those people with GFs or BFs for atleast 2-3 months or so..... or if the person specifically says 'i really would like to bring someone' type of thing...

Re: guest list
We were also faced with the financial dilemna of including guests. Not one invitation I sent out said 'and guest' on it. The way I looked at is was IF a friend was involved in a serious relationship I would have/should have met their SO. If I knew the SO and could actually write their name on the invite, they were included (I did get the correct spelling from a few people). None of our single friends called us and asked if they could bring someone. Not one of our single friends declined the invitation either. As a result of our decision, there will not be one single person attending our wedding that is a complete stranger.

Re: guest list
I didn't invite friends with guests if they weren't in a serious relationship with someone.

Re: guest list
We invited anyone over the age of 18 with a guest regardless if they were dating someone or not. BUT, we did invite nearly 240 and ended up with a head count of 155.....Definitely not going by that 20% rule! Some of our single friends decided not to bring a guest, some OOT family members are not bringing their spouses, people have broken up with their significant others, etc. We didn't plan on everyone coming single..... HTH.

Re: guest list
well what we are going to do is for those people who dont know our families, (like my coworkers) we will send them an invitation & guest. we dont think it would be fair for them to sit at the table by themselves. so they can bring a guest.

Re: guest list
serious relationships engaged living together
and in two cases we invited two of my guests (females) with a date-they are alittle older and they are work friends-all work people were married or bringing a sig. other and I felt bad -However, they didnt bring anyone-one actually thanked me for the thought but realizes how expensive weddings are and wouldnt think of bringing someone unless she was serious... I thought that was nice...

Re: guest list
I am totally in the minority here... although a few will agree with me. I understand having limits on the # of people attending but I would not invite anyone over 18 without a guest.
I mean ... who am I to judge if the person's relationship is serious enough or not? And why possibly risk that single person feel like crappola by not at least having someone keep them company?
