FH and I have started to draft our guest list, I got FMIL list and am waiting for MOB to finish her list. How far in advance do you finalize you guest list? I am asking because when you order the invites you should have it finalized right or at least somewhat? And you can't order the favors and escort cards, place card holders until you have a number right? I am just confused as to when I should have my number or round about number...my wedding is a year away.

Re: Guest List
Mine isn't completely 'finalized' yet. And, we're sending out the invites in a month and a half. We're probably adding 10 or so more people to the list.
I think as long as you are pretty much finalized, you can order at least the invites.
There will always be a few you add at the end -- so as long as you have a basic number, you'll be fine.

yeah you need to the guest list for the invitations and definitely better to order it when you know a number, this way youll know exactly how many to order.

Re: Guest List
We are getting married next september and I'd like to have a finalized guest list by January. This way that gives me some time to order invites, place cards, etc.

Re: Guest List
We finalized our guest list before we even booked the hall. I am sure it will change give or take a few, but this way we know the absolute max that can be invited due to the size of our room

Re: Guest List
The earlier you do it the better. I am starting on mine now. I told FH to get the list from his mom and my mom already has hers together. SO I just have to type it all into the computer. This way your done with it and you don't have to stress over it.

i have a draft of our list. i want to send out STD's so i did all the must have people. our list changes weekly though. i think think the sooner you know about how many people you could be having the better - just so your budget can be established somewhat

Yeah see that is the thing I don't want to go over a certain amount because we budgeted for a certain amount, we had to guaranty the hall 150 and I want to come under 150! I am scared already just from our draft list that we are over and I want to have a number so that I think my mind can be at ease. And that is the other thing too I don't know if I will even know some people that are on the list in a year from now, things change!

Re: Guest List
If you have to guarantee 150, you should be well over that number.
We have to guarantee 150 -- and our list will probably be just over 200.

You shouldn't want to come in under your gaurantee because then you are paying extra money for nothing. WHen you do your list keep in mind there is usually a 15-20% decline rate.

I didn't really want a huge wedding to begin with not that 150 is enormous but...i always wanted tlike 120 or fewer so even though I know we paid for the plates I would rather come under and just feed the vendors instead of having to go over and add on more money for the vendors, does that make sense?

That makes sense. I wanted small too -- we are up to 340! Guess not so small!

if you have to guarantee 150, i would invite well over 150, b/c even if 150 ppl don't show you're paying for 150 regardless b/c that's your contract minimum.

FH's entire family is OOT -- and most of his fathers side, out by Pittsburgh won't be coming. So I will be praying that we hit 150.

Oh really! See we are lucky in that respect, we don't have a lot of OOT guests at all, most of our guests are within the Nassau/Suffolk area, we don't have very big extended families. Most of my mother's family lives in Greece and they aren't traveling here. I have a few family members coming in from NC but hey are really a handful and that is it! Did you invite a lot of co-workers? I am looking at my list to figure out where I can make some cuts and I feel like it is going to have to be from work and people that I have put with dates that have no significant others, which will probably be most of FH's fire department guys.

I just started a new job, and I am not inviting any coworkers. FH is about to switch jobs, so, he's inviting 2 or 3 coworkers. So, we're pretty low in that department.
