As money is tight and both my fiance and I have such huge families we are planning on only inviting close friends and family to the reception. And just close friends and family would be 150 guests. So I was thinking that only those of my friends that have a serious relationship or are married would be allowed to bring a guest. Other than that my friends that are single can not bring a guest. Is that rude? I just don't want a 150 guest affair to turn into a 200+affair.

Re: Guest list question~!
If they are not dating someone, or are not in a serious relationship, you can invite them without a guest. I've been invited to weddings without a guest, and was a little offended, but now that I am planning a wedding, I totally understand why they did so.
For someone to bring a random person to your wedding is just ridiculous...especially since you are paying to feed someone they or you could really care less if they are there.
I will probably be doing the same thing.

No not at all, FH and I are in the same exact situation. Anyone that does not have a significant other now will most likely not be invited with a guest the day of the wedding.

Re: Guest list question~!
Thanks so much....I feel much better now. So how are you guys wording it on the invitations? You guys will only have their names on it right? You won't be putting in the word 'guest' on it?

Re: Guest list question~!
make your 'rule' known though just before or when the invites go out....and not before or suzy alwayssingle will suddenly be madly in love with mr. rightnow just to bring a date...i knwo that is why FSIL is dating this kid now...just to ahve a secure date to our wedding. sad.
i think that spouse or fiance is a perfectly fine rule to have.

Re: Guest list question~!
We did the same, if they were not in a relationship we invited them solo. We were already over our target # and I didn't want people bringing sombody just to bring someone. The way I look at it I want to know most everybody at our wedding, there will be no time for polite introductions that day! :) Hope nobody is too insulted...

I don't think that there is anything wrong with that. We did the same thing. If not we would easily have an extra 20-30 strangers at our wedding.

That is perfectly fine. I did that for my first wedding (ahem years ago) I wanted to do that this time to but FH got all bent out of shape.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it at all!!! FH and I are only inviting dates for people who are engaged, living together or in serious (very serious) relationships ..........i dont think there is any need to get a rule out though, we are adults and its our wedding, do what makes you happy remember everyone else always does!!!
