GUEST LIST QUESTION FOR PAST BRIDES...

This is my first time posting here...I hope you can help!! Did anyone experience this. Once you send out your invitations, people start calling to tell you they have received the invitation, and then ask why they were only put down for themselves., when they aren't with anyone??? So you tell them, because they are single, and they say I may be with someone by then? Don't they get that the couple is actually paying for it.. ?

No, we didn't have that problem, we invited everyone with a guest.
But I would explain to them that you have budget constraints and would love for them to be able to bring someone but unfortunately that is not within your means.

simply explain that due to budget requirements and the capacity of your hall, that unmarried couples or those currently single are not invited with a guest even if their status changes because it's out of the budget and something that cannot be accomodated by your hall.....don't say it's because you are paying...people do not realize a lot of the time who is paying for things.

We had that problem with DH younger cousins. They are in their early to mid teens and are not dating anyone steadily, so we did not write 'and guest' on their invites. A few of them were a little put-off by it, but I did not see the point in them scrambling for a date for one day. JMHO

We just invited anyone that was 18+ with a guest to save ourselves from the hassle of explaining.

We would have loved to have done this..but we went over on our Guest list by 45 people. We aimed for 150 and are at 195. We don't plan to let them know it's because of $$, but just that we kept it to strictly married or involved couples thatw we know. The crazy thing is that this girl..called the week before saying she wasn't sure she could come to begin with..so I don't know why she's making a fuss about her only being invited. I mean hey..if we get alot of 'no' responses..then we'll consider it..but at the moment..we just can't. Unfortunate..but true.

I agree with Lauren.

Definitely explain you are on a budget. People should not assume that they are able to bring a guest when they are single. That is very rude in my opinion.

Thanks ladies. Hopefully we won't have too many more of these...but I'm sure there are more to come. AHHHHH the joys of a wedding

Re: GUEST LIST QUESTION FOR PAST BRIDES...

i'm having problems with people reading their invites. This has now happened twice -- two separate guests, each of whom were invited alone, told me that 'they will not be bringing a date.' I let it go and didn't say anything but really, that's what I expected, because I didn't invite you with a date! Oy!

You'll see though, no matter what you do, SOMEONE will be offended in some shape or form.

This is exactly what a friend of ours did. It worked out alright, I'm sure someones nose was out of joint but you can't please everybody! I think FH and I are doing the same thing due to budget and the size constraints my mother put on us. (shes paying for it so we can't go against her too much on this one)

When calling around to get or confirm addresses we asked for the name of the boyfriend/girlfriend/significant other of all of the single guests. If they did not have one, we invited them solo. We did not have anyone try to add a date after the invites went out. We had to invite 261 people and there was no room to add on the 'flavor of the week' for guests that were single a month before the wedding (RSVP deadline).

SLIGHTLY off topic....one of FH's step-cousins (yeah...) called last wednesday to tell FMIL that he's coming but he didn't know which girl he was bringing....um....the RSVP date was a month ago...and you didn't respond, furthermore, you don't know which girl??? i haven't seen this kid...but i doubt he's that hot. unbelievable..so, while i had managed to avoid 'and guest' on anyone's invites, this guy and his sister are bringing dates, didn't give us their names...and neither was invited with a guest! FILs didn't care...they dont' get it sometimes. so their placecards read: mr. dumba$$ and guest , ms. dumba$$'ssister and guest.

grrrr.

I agree.. Ive got 3 of these so far and 1 assuming they can bring there kids!!!! It happens and it is crazy...if you feel comfortable enough you just need to explain about the budget and room at the hall...

Re: GUEST LIST QUESTION FOR PAST BRIDES...

I was at a BBQ yesterday and my best friend's younger sister asked if she is going to be allowed to bring a date. I explained that we can't invited people with guests unless they are in a serious relationship by the time we send out the invitations- no one will get an 'and guest'. We cant afford for everyone to have a guest nor can we fit those extra people.

Re: GUEST LIST QUESTION FOR PAST BRIDES...

We invited all those that were single alone. I had a few people call up and ask if they could bring someone because they were dating seriously by that time. I had no issue with allowing someone to bring a guest that asked. Most of my friends knew that we paid for the wedding 100% ourselves.
