I have a friend who I worked with about 8 years ago - 2 jobs ago. She lives in NYC and I consider her a good friend even thought I don't see her very often - about 4 times a year. When we get together though we have a good time.
She has been dating someone for a year now. I have never met him. I planned on inviting her with a guest so that she can bring him, but as some of you may remember, we are having big issues with the guest list. I have another friend who I went to college with - lived with her for a semester - who lives in Vermont but does not have a boyfriend.
Neither of them will know anyone else at the wedding, but I would seat them with some single folks their age and I know that they would have a terrific time. I think they both would come anyway - almost positive of it.
Is it absolutely terrible of me to invite them without a guest???? I haven't done anything yet. What do you think?
I realize this is not the optimal thing to do and I would absolutely tell them to bring a guest if it turned out we had the room. They are currently the only people I was planning to invite with guests because everyone else is either with someone or would know a lot of people.
Please don't trash me! Just looking for honest opinions. You would think 2 people wouldn't make a difference, but it does in my case ....

Re: Guest list question: is this rude?
We had the same issue. I didnt want to write and guest b/c I dont want random people I dont know at my wedding. My mother told me if they are over 21 you have to write and guest. so I did and to my suprise many people didnt say and guest. also ones that have a bf or gf are coming alone b/c of certain resons. I know $ might be tight which was our case but you never know. they might come alone!

IMO your wedding your rules! I am also getting married in the WGP at the FH. Our guest list is at 174 for Columbus Day Weekend. I am worried as well 'what if nobody says no'. But that isn't going to happen, people will say no and people won't have to sit on the floor. Don' worry, eveeything will be fine!

I am in the same situation as you with the size so I can sympathize with you. I guaranteed a min of 75 thinking it would be small but I counted yesterday and we are almost at 170! We can't fit more than 150. You do have to watch the fire codes too and the max capacity. My rule was if they are not in a serious relationship, I am not inviting guest, for the most part. My BF and BM is traveling from FLA and I told her she can bring a mutual friend even though she just broke up with her boyfriend of 17yrs. If they are in a serious or long term relationship they should be invited. I also believe out of towners may want to travel with someone. It really depends on the person and situation. I understand that 2 can make a difference though.
