Guest Transportation

Original post by Debbie2011

this is a 2-part poll all wrapped into one...

as a guest at a wedding, would you expect to be provided with transportation to the venue?

and as a bride, will you be providing transportation for your guests?

I have NEVER heard of a bride and groom providing transportation for guests other than the bridal party and parents.

I will have transportation for my bridal party and parents.

Guests from out of town will have the opportunity to book at our hotel block which will provide free shuttle service to and from the venue.

Do people seriously pay for guests to get to the wedding?? I have never heard of this.. we are having 220+ guests!!

i had 250 guests and 150 of them took the buses that i provided...

From where to where though? This concept confuses me I guess. All of my guests are coming from their homes, which varies from Eastern Long Island to NJ and everywhere in between. How would a bus pick them up? I can see how it would work if they are all at a hotel. I have never had this offered as a guest either, but it does seem very generous.

i really don't know what to do????!!!!!

if everyone were to come that we invited, there will be over 150 people who would need to be provided with transportation (my fiance lives in atlanta and most of our guests are from out of town). shuttle service would be pointless (there is too far a distance from the hotel to the venue to make multiple trips in a timely manner) and the 50 passenger coach buses are so expensive b/c we would need 3 of them - and we never budgeted for THAT much.

i do like the idea of seeing if we can get a discount with some nearby cab companies, though.

just don't want people expecting the transportation and then being caught off-guard that we don't have it.

I'm going to put the cab info in with the OOT bags,, so they'll know as soon as they arrive to the hotel, but I'm also going to spread the word that they need to call cabs.

Back in my sorority days - we typically stayed at a hotel that was not next to the venue for our annual formal. No one was driving, so we all took cabs back and forth. Most of my friends are used to that, so I know they will expect to have to call a cab.

If it's not in your budget, DO NOT STRESS IT. Do I feel bad? Kindy, but I certainly can't afford it.

In my case, a lot of family is staying at my mom's and/or going back to NJ so we're going to have a shuttle to/from church (in Queens) and reception hall. It's really just for family. I've tried to ask other guests if they are interested in it but for some people it doesn't make sense if they live out on the island.

i don't think anyone is referring to transportation from anywhere except a hotel to the venue, or from the church/temple to the venue.

most people seem to be offering some type of transportation for their guests who stay at a hotel. i really want to do this - i know i'd appreciate it if it were done for me - but i had no idea how much $$$ this would cost. we're not talking just a few hundred dollars. the 55 passenger buses run about $1,200, plus 20% gratuity on top of that. definitely not a little expense, that's for sure!

How far is the hotel from the ceremony?

the venue is about 20 minutes away. i know it's a really nice gesture to provide the transportation for the guests, but it really is a lot of money when you have so many guests to transport.

i really had no clue how expensive these buses would be... thought they'd be just a few hundred dollars... boy was i wrong!

Re: Guest Transportation

We provided a shuttle for guests between the venue and the hotel. We did this for a few reasons:

1- we did not want people drinking and driving. This alone was a big concern for us.

2- oot guests are not familiar with the area and could get lost. It was kind of confusing to get to the venue without navigation from the hotel. Many of my friends stayed over from the city and do not have a car. So...

3- it guaranteed they would arrive on time. Our ceremony was at our RH and we did not want people to come in during.

Every guest at the hotel took the shuttle.

You say every guest took the shuttle... how many guests stayed at the hotel? The shuttles only hold about 12-14 people, right? We have a lot of people that will be staying at the hotel... we would def need a coach bus if we do anything.

Re: Guest Transportation

We are using a shuttle from the RH to the hotel for OOT guests and limos only for BP and parents

I would never expect anyone to provide transportation for me. We did have a limo shuttle, but it was not enough for everyone to go in.

Re: Guest Transportation

this poll has helped a lot... my FH and i are going to try and get a bus for our guests. not sure if we go with 1 or 2 buses, though (we are inviting a LOT of out of town guests, but don't really know how many will come).

i suppose we can book 1 now and then add another based on how many people are staying at the hotel.

wish i knew ahead how many people would need transportation...
