I have a tentative guestlist going, and I'm wondering how soon we should start to 'finalize' it if my wedding is November 2008?

Re: Guestlist question
You'll need to have your invitations in the mail in September.
And its best to try to order them by June or July, depending on how custom and complicated the design is ... layers, ribbons, bows, etc. ... and probably a little earlier if you want to have them addressed by a hand calligrapher.
I would suggest aiming to have your list finalized by March or April, so that you can keep a close eye on the list for those last minute add-ons, as you price out your invitation options before ordering.

Re: Guestlist question
You wont really need to until you order invitations, but if your working with a budget- you might want to do it sooner.
We thought we finalized ours in April and FILS werent inviting anyone else. Then they just went and added about 40 ppl which screwed up our budget. We wouold have went lower on flowers or something to cover the cost of 40 ppl.
They ended up giving us the $ for the extra ppl so it didnt kill us, but I hear these bulk of added ppl happens all the time.

Re: Guestlist question
Our wedding list is pretty much finalized for October 2008. We're sending out save the dates soon, so I have a semi finalized list. There are a few people (4 couples maybe) who aren't going to get Save the Dates because I'm not sure if I'm inviting them (mostly it's that my parents haven't finalized it yet!). I would recommend to finalize it before you order invitations.

Re: Guestlist question
Our's was finalized when we submitted the list to the printer for our invites.
But we had started one as soon as we got engaged. I just kept an excel file and kept adding (and sometimes deleting) people as our planning went on.

Re: Guestlist question
If you are having an engagement party then you definitely need to try to finalize before then. Typically if you invite them to the e=party they should be invited to the wedding.

Thanks! All the wedding planning sites and books have slightly different timelines, but I wasn't sure what worked in 'reality'.
I noticed that your wedding is coming up soon...good luck!!

Thanks! We had our engagement party in late August, and we limited it to just close family (parents, siblings, aunts & uncles, and first cousins) because we both have large families. Now we have to think about including second cousins, friends of the family, and our friends...and this is where it becomes a slippery slope...
